Cleveland Cavaliers vs Boston Celtics Predictions

  • Cleveland Cavaliers +2.5 vs Boston Celtics
  • Total: 200.5 Points
  • Cleveland is now a surprising 9-5 straight-up and 10-3-1 against the spread.
  • Both teams have played toward the under this season, especially the Cavaliers who have seen ten of their first 14 games go under the total.

Monday night will be the Boston Celtics second game of a two game set being played in Cleveland. The Cavaliers won the first game between the two 91-89 on Saturday night. We should definitely anticipate a scrappy, hard fought game as they see each other for the second time in three days.

The Boston Celtics were prepared to be without Jaylen Brown on Saturday and then were forced to go without Al Horford and Josh Richardson as well. Missing Horford really hurt in the close loss against the Cavs because their strength are their big men that he could have assisted with. It seems as though Horford will return and the Celtics could definitely use his veteran leadership. Boston has easily the best player on the court in Jayson Tatum and you would have to assume he’s not going to shoot 8 for 22 from the field including 1 for 8 from beyond the arc again which could be the difference in this second meeting.

The Cavs are one of the biggest surprises in the association so far this season. The addition of Evan Mobley to Jarrett Allen has formed an intimidating twin towers of sorts. Cleveland’s success has been based on their defense as rank 2nd in the league only allowing 101.3 points per game. However have to wonder how long the Cavs can keep up this pace especially due to the fact that they will be without Colin Sexton for an extended period of time.

Generally when teams play back-to-backs and they are relatively evenly matched in the NBA they will split, however we obviously can’t rely on just that. First off the Celtics are projected to be far superior to the Cavs this season and we can take to much stock in only one month of regular season basketball. Fact is the Celtics blew a late 19 point lead based on some really cold shooting by Tatum. Horford should give the Celtics an added boost they need to exact revenge on Cleveland Monday night. If Tatum just shoots a hair closer to his norm that in itself will be enough to cover the two point difference they lost by on Saturday. The spread is only -2.5 so we are basically asking for a Celtics win and that’s going to be official play in this contest.

Official Play: Boston Celtics -2.5

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Boston Celtics Analysis from The GoldSheet

These two just met on Saturday, with the Cavs winning a low-scoring game 91-89, with Cleveland rallying from 19 points down in the second half behind G Darius Garland and rookie C Eric Mobley combining for 41 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and three steals (Mobley had 3 blocks as well). Boston, which was playing Saturday’s game without rest, should put a better foot forward in this one with Sunday off to rest up. The Celtics had won nine-straight in this series before losing the last three against the Cavaliers, but look for a bit of revenge to be in the eyes of Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart who combined to shoot 8-of-27 vs. Cleveland. The Celtics made just 6-of-23 treys in that one (none off the bench). That will change. Play Boston.
