Cleveland Cavaliers vs Boston Celtics Analysis
The Cleveland Cavaliers play host to the Boston Celtics at Quicken Loans Arena in an Eastern Conference clash on Tuesday evening. The Celtics snapped a two game losing streak with a 112-94 victory over the Washington Wizards on Sunday afternoon.
The Cavs are on a five game winning streak after a 121-108 home win over the New York Knicks. Boston hosted Cleveland on Friday and the Cavaliers prevailed 132-123 in overtime. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST/4:10 PST.
Cavs Push Win Streak To Five
After losing their season opener to the Toronto Raptors, the Cleveland Cavaliers have reeled off five straight wins giving them the second best record in the NBA. They picked up their fifth win on Sunday at home against the Knicks 121-108.
Donovan Mitchell continued his torrid pace as the games leading scorer and assist man with 38 & 12 respectively. Kevin Love shot the lights out off the bench with 29 points while going 8 for 13 from beyond the arc. Jarrett Allen patrolled the paint with a game high 13 rebounds.
Donovan Mitchell has taken his game to another level, with an average of 32.3 points, 7.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds a game on 49.6% shooting from the field and 45.5% from long distance. In the game against Boston, the Cavs were led by Mitchell and Caris LeVert who each scored a jaw-dropping 41 points.
Defense has been the Cleveland calling card as they rank 2nd in points allowed with only 105.7 a game. The offensive attack isn’t far behind as they rank 7th with 117.7 points a game. Darius Garland status for the game is unknown a he recovers from an eye injury that’s already cost him five games.
Celts Pickup Win Over Wiz
The Boston Celtics got back on track with a 112-94 victory over the Washington Wizards at TD Garden in Boston. Jaylen Brown was the games leading scorer with 24 points on 7 of 18 from the field.
Brown also led his team in rebounds with 10, giving him a double-double on the night. Jayson Tatum and Malcolm Brogdon were both right behind Brown with 23 points each. The Celtics lost their prior game at home in overtime against tonight’s opponent, the Cavs.
Both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown scored 32 points but it wasn’t enough. The loss displayed just how vulnerable Bostons frontcourt is without Robert Williams III as they lost the rebounding battle 42-34. The Celtic defense has also been affected by the loss of Williams as they currently rank 18th with 114.5 points allowed per game.
Offensively the Celtics sit at 12th with 116.7 points a game. The Celtics are coming off a tumultuous off-season and the loss of Williams is glaring but they still lead their division with a 4-2 record in this early season.
Cleveland Cavaliers vs Boston Celtics Prediction
The Boston Celtics enter this game as 2 point road favorites with a total of 221.5. The Cavs bigs dominated Boston frontcourt last week as they continue try and find an answer to playing without Robert Williams III.
Al Horford is an aging player coming off a grueling playoff run where he guarded Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo & Draymond Green in back-to-back series. Through Horford’s five games he’s yet to clear his Points + Rebounds + Assists total of 18.5. He’s also yet to attempt a free throw yet this season as you figure he would have walked into one by now.
The majority of his points are from three-point land and that’s not sustainable. The Cavs give up the the 7th least amount of points, 4th least amount of rebounds and the 10 least amount of assists to opposing centers.
Horford will have occasional nights where he could be a difference maker but this matchup is just brutal. I’m riding this Horford under PRA trend that’s cashed for us in the past.
