Atlanta Hawks vs Washington Wizards Analysis

The Washington Wizards head directly to Atlanta for an Eastern Conference clash with the Hawks as both teams look to play the second game of a back-to-back.

The Hawks fell short in Toronto, losing 118-108 against the Raptors dropping their overall record to 41-38. The Wiz torched the Timberwolves 132-114 in Minnesota to improve to 35-44 on the season.

Atlanta will be looking to win the season series 3-1 after winning at home 118-111 and 117-114 in Washington. The Wiz took the first head-to-head game 122-111 at home back in October.

Hawks Jockey For Position in Play-In

The Atlanta Hawks had a five game winning streak snapped in Toronto, leaving them at 9th place in the Eastern Conference with three games left to play.

They are tied with the 8th seeded Brooklyn Nets and a game ahead of the 10th seeded Charlotte Hornets. Trae Young led the team in both scoring and assists with 26 points and 15 dimes.

Clint Capela led his team on the boards with 14 rebounds. This will be the Hawks final regular season home game as they play the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets on the road to conclude the season.

John Collins remains out with a foot injury, while Danilo Gallinari is questionable with an unspecified injury. The Hawks were scoring points in bunches prior to last night with five straight 120+ point games, three of the five being 130 points or more.

Offense has been their calling card all season long as they rank 6th in points scored and 22nd in points allowed to their rivals.

Wizards Season Has Provided Little Magic

The Washington Wizards playoff hopes were extinguished five days ago, but that didn’t stop them from crushing the Timberwolves by 18 points last night in Minnesota.

Kristaps Porzingis led his team with 25 points, while Daniel Gafford added 24 points of his own. The Wizards record leaves them in no man’s land, not enough wins to be a playoff team and not enough losses for a decent spot in the upcoming NBA Draft Lottery.

Washington will conclude their season with meaningless home game against the New York Knicks and a game in Charlotte that could mean something to the Hornets.

Kyle Kuzma continues to miss time with a knee injury and it seems unlikely that he will return this season. The Wizards defense ranks just below average on the season and over their last 15 games. Offensively they are bottom ten on the year and of late.

Atlanta Hawks vs Washington Wizards Prediction

The Atlanta Hawks are favored by 10.5 points with a total of 234. There are tons of factors pointing to a high scoring game tonight. Both teams are lower bottom ten on defense.

Atlanta ranks 6th in scoring and 2nd in three-point percentage, hitting 37.3% from beyond the arc. The Wiz have been stepping up their scoring with 127 points or more in three of their last four games, with the over cashing in all four of those games.

The Hawks are 5-1 to the over in their last six games without rest. Speaking of rest, both teams are playing the second game of a back-to-back.

Neither team is disciplined so expect lackadaisical defense as both teams look to outscore the other.
