The Bass Pro Shops Night Race takes place at Bristol Motor Speedway, with drivers battling for 500 laps and 266.5 miles around one of the most intense tracks in NASCAR. Bristol is a 0.533-mile high-banked concrete oval nicknamed “The Last Great Colosseum,” with banking reaching up to 28 degrees in the corners and incredibly fast lap times for such a small track.

With 36 cars packed onto a half-mile track, leaders encounter lapped traffic quickly, making patience, car control, and choosing the right racing groove extremely important.

The concrete surface can change dramatically as rubber builds up, and NASCAR will sometimes apply traction compound to help create multiple grooves and encourage passing.

Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell, and Brad Keselowski are among the drivers who have traditionally shown strength at Bristol, where short-track experience and the ability to navigate traffic are huge advantages.

The race being held at night only adds to the atmosphere, with more than 100,000 fans surrounding the track in a stadium-like setting while drivers battle inches apart.

The Bass Pro Shops Night Race is 500 laps of traffic, contact, strategy, and short-track chaos, making it one of NASCAR’s most anticipated races every season.
