PFL Austin Predictions
Lewis McGrillen -315 vs Rafael do Nascimento
Both fighters are capable grapplers, but McGrillen separates himself with his relentless pace and nonstop pressure.
Whether the fight is standing or on the mat, McGrillen constantly forces his opponents to work. His volume, cardio, and aggression make him extremely difficult to deal with over the course of a fight.
Nascimento is dangerous with submissions, but his last performance exposed some concerns. He benefited from a favorable referee decision and spent long stretches being controlled on the ground. Against someone with McGrillen’s activity level, those defensive issues become much more significant.
McGrillen’s speed, pressure, and ability to dictate the tempo should allow him to avoid the submission threats while consistently winning the exchanges.
Caolan Loughran +120 vs Julio Arce
The value is on the underdog in this matchup. Arce is now 36 years old and appears to be well past his prime. His PFL debut was disappointing, as he was bloodied and clearly outworked throughout the fight. Despite that, the betting market has continued to support him, creating value on Loughran.
Loughran isn’t a future title contender, but he’s younger, hungrier, and still improving. He owns a solid grappling game, has proven durability with a granite chin, and has shown the willingness to push a high pace.
While Arce may still have the cleaner striking technique, Loughran’s youth, toughness, and ability to mix in wrestling give him multiple paths to victory. At plus money, he’s the side worth backing.
PFL Austin Main Event: Johnny Eblen -580 vs Impa Kasanganay
Eblen enters this fight with something to prove after his last outing. He completely dominated Bryan Battle, bouncing back from the first loss of his career—a fight he controlled from start to finish before getting caught in a submission during the closing moments.
Stylistically, this is a favorable matchup. Eblen’s wrestling is his biggest weapon, and expect him to establish it early. Once he gets top position, he’s one of the best in the sport at maintaining control and wearing opponents down.
Kasanganay has rebounded with two straight wins after a rough stretch, but neither opponent was anywhere near Eblen’s level. His cardio also hasn’t looked as sharp as it once did, and that’s a dangerous weakness against a fighter who constantly forces grappling exchanges.
As the fight progresses, Eblen’s pace and top control should take over. Look for him to dominate the wrestling and eventually earn a late stoppage.
