Blue Jays vs Red Sox Analysis

The Boston Red Sox meet the Toronto Blue Jays for the third game of a four game series at Rogers Centre on Wednesday night. The Red Sox have to be demoralized after blowing a three run lead in the 9th inning and ultimately losing 6-5 in the 10th.

They have now lost four straight games and sit only a half game ahead of the last place Baltimore Orioles in the American League East. The victory moved the Jays record up to 12-6, giving them a half game lead over Yankees for first place in the division.

Michael Wacha gets the start for Boston with Ross Stripling getting the nod for Toronto. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM EST.

Sox Can’t Secure a Victory

The Boston Red Sox had the victory they so desperately needed in hand as they took a 5-2 lead into the 9th inning. Unfortunately reliever Jake Diekman blew the lead on a George Springer hit a game tying two run blast. Reliever Matt Barnes ultimately suffered the loss in the bottom of the 10th inning.

The offensive standout was Xander Bogaerts who went 3 for 5 with an RBI double. The Red Sox are on a brutal run, they have lost four straight and 7 of their last 9 games.

No excuses, but they have dealt with a lot of adversity in this young season. It started with the last minute acquisition of Trevor Story, Chris Sale hasn’t pitched yet this season due to injury and now manager Alex Cora has been unable to be with the team due to a positive Covid-19 test.

This team is running on fumes at this point with this being 12th game in 17 day stretch without a single off day. Sox starter Michael Wacha will look to stop the bleeding.

Wacha hasn’t been able to pitch deep into games, but he has limited the opposition in all three of his starts. He’s thrown 14.1 innings and only allowed three earned runs, though it is concerning that he has seven walks.

Blue Jays Soar to Top of Division Standings

The Toronto Blue Jays have lived up to their off season expectations so far in 2022. They currently occupy first place in the American League East with a 12-6 record after winning 6 of their last 7 games.

The Jays potent lineup ranks #1 in homeruns and 6th in OPS. Starting pitcher Kevin Gausman dominated the Boston Red Sox yet again last night. He baffled hitters for six innings, only allowing four hits and one unearned run.

George Springer hit a game tying blast in the bottom of the 9th inning to force extra frames. Ross Stripling will toe the rubber for Toronto on Wednesday night.

He has a 4.50 ERA across 10 innings and four appearances, two of which being starts. The Jays will enter this game with tremendous momentum after last night dramatic.

Blue Jays vs Red Sox Prediction

The money line is set at -145 for the Blue Jays and +125 for the Red Sox with a total set at 8.5. Michael Wacha and Ross Stripling have both struggled through April so far and they are both going to have trouble getting outs and pitching deep into the game.

Both teams bats may have caught fire last night and they are playing another game in a hitter friendly ballpark. We cashed yesterday with Toronto’s team total on the Springer dinger. But I think the Red Sox are going to be scoring their fair share of runs tonight.

The over cashed in 7 of the last 9 head-to-head meetings between these teams. Let’s get four runs from each team and cash this over 8.5.

Prediction: Over 8.5 Total Runs Scored
