Blue Jays vs Red Sox Analysis

The Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays meet up for the second game of a four game set at the Rogers Centre. The Blue Jays landed another victory by the final score of 6-2 in Game One on Monday night.

They now lead the season series 3-1. The difference in the game was an 8th inning grand slam by Bo Bichette. Kevin Gausman will take the mound for Toronto and will be opposed by Sox starter Nick Pivetta. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM EST.

Blue Jays Land Another Victory

After narrowly missing the post-season in 2021 the Toronto Blue Jays have the 2022 season on a tremendous run. After winning five of their last six games, the Jays sit a half game ahead of the New York Yankees in America League East with an 11-6 record.

Their current run has come against the teams that competed in last seasons ALCS in the Red Sox and Houston Astros. The Jays offense is just as powerful as advertised as they lead the league in home runs.

However they still have room for improvement as they rank 10th in wOBA and 8th in OPS. Bo Bichette hit what proved to be a game winning grand slam in the bottom of the 8th inning.

Reliever Adam Cimber collected his 4th win of the young season. Newly acquired ace Kevin Gausman will toe the rubber for Toronto on Tuesday night. He comes into the game with a 1-1 record and 2.89 ERA across three starts.

He threw a an eight inning gem in his last start against Boston at Fenway Park last Thursday. Gausman allowed only one run on seven hits and no walks while striking out eight Red Sox hitters.

Sox Need to Stack Some Wins

The Boston Red Sox are in horrible form, they are in the midst of a three game losing streak and losers of five of their last six games.

Their 7-10 record on the season lands them in 4th place in the American League East. What was supposed to be one of the leagues most potent offenses has completely fallen flat.

They have scored a pathetic two runs or less in six of their last seven games, with four runs as their maximum effort in the only other game.

It can’t be understated, that’s only 15 runs in their last seven games for a horrible average of 2.14 runs per game during that span.

Hitters like Trevor Story, J.D. Martinez and Rafael Devers have yet to reach their full potentials and the bottom of the order has given them very little. Red Sox Nation will look to starting pitcher Nick Pivetta to keep the Jays bats in check.

However that could be an issue as Pivetta has an 0-3 record with a 10.03 ERA in three starts…Yikes! These very same Blue Jays tattooed him his last time out for five runs on seven hits and four walks in only four innings.

Blue Jays vs Red Sox Prediction

The Toronto Blue Jays now enter this game as heavy favorites with the money line set at -180 and +165 with a total of 8. It’s a true case of teams heading in completely opposite directions, the Jays 5-1 in their last six games, the Sox 1-5 during the same span.

The deck seems stacked against Boston as their hitters are lifeless and Toronto has a clear cut starting pitching advantage. You obviously have to look towards the Jays but there isn’t much value in a -180 money line and you never know, this could be the game the Sox bats break out.

You could look towards a +105 Toronto run line, but I’ll offer what I consider to a better option. I don’t see how Nick Pivetta leaves this game unscathed and word is the Sox plan to start Garrett Whitlock in the 4th game of this series, which thins the bullpen.

The Blue Jays should feast on Pivetta and score a few runs on the pen, which should give them the five runs necessary to clear their team total of 4.5 at -110 odds.

Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays Team Total Over 4.5 -110
