2025 Rocket Classic Course Preview

The 2025 Rocket Mortgage Classic heads back to the historic Detroit Golf Club North Course from June 25–29.

This classic Donald Ross design plays as a par 72 at approximately 7,370 yards, featuring flat, tree-lined fairways and small Poa Annua greens that put a premium on iron  accuracy and smart approach play over sheer power.

The course has a birdie-friendly setup with welcoming landing areas, receptive greens, and strategic par-5s, giving precise ball-strikers plenty of chances.

However, water hazards and thick rough keep players honest, making scrambling a vital skill when tee shots don’t find the fairway.

Recent tweaks—like bunker touch-ups, tree clearing, and modest lengthening—aimed to slightly knock down low scores, yet Detroit remains a spot where iron play and putting are decisive.

Milder weather with highs near 80°F and only scattered rain early in the week means the course is likely to soften initially before firming up later.

Historically, winners here shoot in the –18 to –26 range, underscoring the scoring potential when  players dial in their short game.

Look for iron maestros and savvy scramblers to excel on this classic layout, where solid plays and sharp putting separate contenders from the pack.

*Potential for rain on Thursday and Friday…thunderstorms so there could be weather delays.

2025 Rocket Classic Favorite Holes

Favorite Hole: Hole 4 Par 5 635 Yards

I love this insanely long hole out of nowhere on a fairly easy course. We also get a gigantic net on the right side of the fairway so it’s obvious we’re playing at a course where bad golfers from the public play here, and who doesn’t love a random obstacle?

The net and some trees are on the right, bunkers on the left side of the fairway, and it would take an insanely long drive to have any chance at going for it in 2.

The green has bunkers short and left so the layup should be to the  right side of the fairway for an up and down for potential birdie.

Hole 14 Par 5, 555 Yards / Hole 15, Par 3 160 / Hole 16 Par 4, 446

If a player goes Eagle, Hole In One, Birdie, that’s 313 (area code of that area), player wins a bunch of money for charity.

18th Hole Rating: 7.1 (Par 4 455 Yards)

Really solid finishing hole here. The tee shot is difficult as bunkers, stands, and tall grass are on the right, and left is no good with trees and rough. The green isn’t easy to putt on so it can set up  drama for the finish.

This hole will also have a lot of drops with all the stands around so don’t be surprised to see the outcome of the tournament affected by a wayward tee shot that gets a free drop, and a much easier shot. Happens all the time on this hole.

2025 Rocket Classic: Players That Can Trip You Up

Collin Morikawa

Morikawa comes in as one of the favorites, but he hasn’t posted a single win or runner up finish since March.

His putting has completely fallen apart—losing a brutal -0.65 strokes on  the greens over the last 30 days—and his around-the-green play has been mediocre at best (+0.06).

That’s a bad combo on a course where birdie opportunities are everything. If you can’t get hot with the putter, you can’t win here. Fade the name—he’s not the guy this week.

Min Woo Lee

Lee might draw attention after a runner-up finish here last year, but don’t let that result fool you—his current form is nowhere near competitive.

Since winning the Houston Open, he hasn’t finished better than 49th in seven straight starts. Over the last 30 days, he’s losing -0.57 strokes gained overall, and even over a three-month stretch, he’s barely above water at +0.22.

This is a clear case of name and course history inflating value—he’s in terrible form and doesn’t belong on your bet slip this week.

Hideki Matsuyama

He’s getting way too much respect in the betting markets this week. He hasn’t cracked the Top 30 in any of his last four starts and missed the cut the last time he played this course.

Over the last 30 days, he ranks outside the Top 25 in total strokes gained—behind names like John Pak, Lee Hodges, and Brandt Snedeker.

That’s not the kind of profile you want for someone priced as a Top 7 option. He’s a hard pass for us this week.

Rocket Classic DraftKings Darlings

Adam Hadwin ($6,800) isn’t a flashy play, but in a weak field, he’s exactly the kind of steady golfer you  look for to sneak through the cut.

He’s made the weekend in 6 of his last 7 starts and finished runner-up here in 2023, showing he can navigate this layout.

The stat profile isn’t eye-popping,  but consistency matters in a watered-down field like this. If you’re digging for value, Hadwin is a solid, low-risk option to keep in mind.

Hayden Springer ($6800) is flying under the radar, but he’s been quietly reliable this season with 9  made cuts in 11 starts. While his stats won’t jump off the page, he has course comfort, finishing 10th here last year.

In a field where many names are struggling for form, Springer offers some sneaky stability. He’s not a flashy pick, but he’s a viable option to make the weekend and maybe sneak into the top 30.

Kevin Roy ($7000) has been an absolute DraftKings gem lately, quietly making six straight cuts and  delivering big value with finishes of 18th and 15th during that stretch. Despite flying under the radar, he ranks Top 40 in this field in total strokes gained over the last 30 days.

For a low price, he’s consistently outperforming expectations and stacking DFS points. In a weak field, this is the kind of form you want to ride.

Rest Of Lineup: Adam Hadwin, Hayden Springer, Kevin Roy, Cameron Young, Harry Hall, Ben Griffin
