Hey, Colorado! Once the 1st team I previewed each year, now they’re the test case for an expansion team.

Deion Sanders is here, and everyone, from the fan base to the Big 12 poaching committee is locked in. How do I attack this preview?

Colorado Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH

The old staff was made up of a Head Coach on my coveted bottom five list, and a coordinator who was rock bottom. Sanders is an entertainer, but also likely a decent judge of talent.

As I write this, only 13 players are here from last year’s roster. Sean Lewis is a solid offensive coordinator hire.

Seventeen transfers will start, including Deion’s son at QB, a good RB from Houston, a young, highly touted WR, and a pair of Kent St OL, where Lewis coached.

Alabama, Clemson, FSU and Arkansas are just some of the schools which now furnish Colorado’s defensive starters.

Let’s start with this: The bad ’22 staff gave Sanders a team with a 155-406 conference point ratio, and an overall rush ratio of 3.75-6.45, plus nine defensive sacks and a 67% pass defnese. This is a better staff, but the house has been gutted, and no foundation exists.

Colorado Football 2023 Predictions, Colorado Schedule:

The schedule is easier, but other than perhaps hosting Colorado State, the Buffaloes will be an underdog all season long.

I don’t see a competitive road game unless Arizona State, another team with record roster turnover, is really bad.

The home games which they might have a shot to win include Nebraska (new staff, no rhythm on team), Colorado State (nothing special), Stanford (new staff, six returning starters) and maybe Arizona, if that defense remains bottom tier.

Colorado Football Bottom Line:

2-10. We should know if this comes together faster based on the stat sheet. I’m most worried about the OL in pass protection and the DL vs. the run.

Colorado Football HANDICAPPING TIP:

On a January podcast I noted that I had wagered over 5.5 and over 10.5 as the number of transfers that Colorado would bring in.

Those wins were credited in March! My best guess is that lines will be quite high. Until I see something good, I’d rather fade than follow.
