BKFC Liberty Brawl Predictions

Britain Hart -260 vs Sarah Shell +205

This is one of the few spots where I actually think the favorite offers value.

Hart isn’t known for overwhelming knockout power, but she makes up for it with accuracy, relentless volume, and outstanding cardio. She also absorbs damage remarkably well. Even when  she gets hit, she rarely shows the swelling or cuts that can influence close rounds in bare-knuckle  scoring.

Her experience is another major advantage. Between traditional boxing and BKFC, she knows exactly how to manage distance, work inside the clinch, and consistently win rounds.

Shell comes from an MMA background and has looked solid as a boxer so far. She has a good  jab and respectable power, but she’s still technically behind Hart. One issue that stands out is  how exposed her chin becomes whenever she throws her overhand right.

The bigger concern is the level of competition. Shell’s three BKFC wins came against opponents  who simply weren’t good enough to expose those flaws. This is a massive step up in class, and I think it’s too much too soon. Hart is one of my easier picks on the card.

John Garbarino -230 vs Mike Richman +184

The odds are a little surprising considering Richman has fought a much higher level of competition throughout his BKFC career.

Richman has challenged for a title, while Garbarino has won four straight, although those victories have come against relatively weak opposition. Garbarino’s biggest flaw is that he carries  his hands low far too often, leaving himself open to counters.

The problem for Richman is that he looked terrible in his last fight. As the bout progressed, his  cardio faded badly, he absorbed far too much punishment, and that performance came against an  opponent who had lost five consecutive fights.

It’s a difficult fight to handicap. If Richman looks anything like he did in his last appearance,  Garbarino should pull away once the first round is over. Still, it’s hard to completely ignore  Richman’s experience against much stronger competition.

Garbarino is the pick, but it’s not a fight I’ll likely have money on.

BKFC Liberty Brawl Main Event: Austin Trout -440 vs Ben Bonner +320

Trout should win this fight, but the betting price makes it difficult to justify.

He’s the complete package in bare-knuckle boxing. His footwork is outstanding, he controls range well, piles up volume, and has enough power to force stoppages when opponents begin  breaking down.

Bonner is a quality fighter in his own right. He has good counter-striking instincts and has shown  he can capitalize on mistakes, but everything feels just a step slower than Trout. At times Bonner appears to be thinking rather than reacting, and those brief hesitations are exactly what Trout  excels at exploiting.

Whenever Bonner becomes flat-footed or pauses between exchanges, expect Trout to jump on  those openings with combinations. Trout is the clear pick, but the odds don’t offer much betting value.
