Sunderland’s Current Form

Picking up three points in the Premier League just twice since Christmas, Sunderland had to feel gutted when Evanilson leveled for Bournemouth in the second half at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday. Three points would have been nicer as the Black Cats have slipped from Champions League qualifier contention to mid-table since that encouraging start to the campaign after the straight bounce up from the Championship for Regis Le Bris.

The consensus view outside of Tyneside is that Le Bris had the side admirably punching above its weight the first three months of the campaign, with transfer adds like Granit Xhaka at midfield proving quite useful, but having so many players leave for AFCON duty in the middle of the season, and then returning in January, effectively put the season off its early axis.

Leeds’ Current Form

Meanwhile, fellow promoted side Leeds has taken a different path this term but can pull to within three points of Sunderland in the unofficial “Promotion Sweepstakes” with a win here at Elland Road. It says something about how far the All-Whites have come since Daniel Farke pulled off the hand-brake and turned his players loose in late November, to the point the only losses since have come against current Champs League participants Arsenal, Newcastle, and Man City, with the latter causing Leeds fans to feel aggrieved at not getting a better result they felt deserved on the weekend.

Though not completely out of the woods with the drop zone just six points below, nothing about form the past three months suggests Leeds is in any danger, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, still getting ample opportunities, is due to resume his goal-scoring spree from the late autumn when netting seven times across a six-match stretch.

Leeds vs Sunderland Prediction

The straight win at home for Leeds at -105 or thereabouts is hard to bypass, which would be the top recommendation here. A decent case can probably be made for over 2.5 goals at +110 or so as well. Might also look to supplement and slightly enhance the potential return with Leeds Halftime/Fulltime, priced at +210, and Calvert-Lewin at +130 to find the net might be worth a smaller swing as well.
