THE PLAY: Green Bay Packers -4.5 (-105)
GREEN BAY -4.5 vs. ATLANTA
I’m laying the points with Green Bay tonight. The Packers are coming off a 20-17 overtime win over the Jets, but the bigger number for me is what they’ve done offensively through two games: 419 yards per game, 3rd in the NFL, compared with just 262 yards per game for Atlanta, 23rd in the league. The Falcons have scored only 8 points per game, 31st in the NFL.
The quarterback situation is another major factor. Atlanta is turning back to Michael Penix Jr., who is making his first NFL start since suffering an ACL injury in November 2025. He has been practicing for three weeks, but this is still his first regular-season game action in nearly a year — and his first start comes in a Thursday night road game at Lambeau Field.
Meanwhile, Green Bay gets its home opener after playing its first two games on the road. The Packers have won 13 consecutive home openers, and they've won each of their last four meetings with Atlanta at Lambeau.
Atlanta also enters this game at 0-2, having scored just 16 points combined in its first two games, including a brutal 34-3 loss to Carolina. The Falcons have also already turned the ball over six more times than they've taken it away, the worst turnover differential in the NFL entering Thursday.
Green Bay does have some injury concerns, particularly along the offensive line and with Jayden Reed ruled out, so I don't expect this to be a runaway. But the matchup still sets up well for the Packers: superior offensive production, home-field advantage, a struggling Atlanta offense and a quarterback making his first start after a major injury.
I’m looking for Green Bay to control this game from the start and win by at least a touchdown. Packers -4.5 is the play.
