THE PLAY: Nikola Jokic (DEN) Over 28.5 Points at Golden State
The Nuggets are one of two teams yet to play a regular season game yet as they open up at home against the Warriors tonight. Golden State did a solid job defeating the Lakers 119-109 in their season opener but they allowed LA to still shoot 54-percent from the field, including opposing center Deandre Ayton going 5-of-7 from the floor. We’re taking Nikola Jokic to go over 28.5 points to open up the season against a Warriors team in which he has scored 30+ points in five of his last six head-to-head matchups. Jokic only played in two of the three meetings last year, but he averaged 35.5 points in those two games. When playing at home last season, Jokic averaged three more points per game compared to the road. Jokic has also been a fast starter at the beginning of the season, averaging 31.5 points per game last October. Golden State's perimeter defense held the Lakers to 25-percent shooting from beyond the arc, so Denver may be more inclined than usual to feed “The Joker” inside for easy buckets. The Nuggets led the NBA in points in the paint last season so let’s take (arguably) the best player in the league to go OVER 28.5 points.
THE PLAY: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -4.0 (-110)
Tampa Bay has won five of the last six meetings, including both contests last season. The Bucs generated an average of 494.5 yards per game in those two meetings last year as both games went over the total. The Saints committed four turnovers in last week's loss in Chicago. Entering that contest, Spencer Rattler had only thrown one interception all season. Each of the Saints' last three games have stayed under the total. Tampa is on the second leg of a road back-to-back on short rest after losing at Detroit on Monday night. That low-scoring 24-9 affair broke a string of four-straight overs in Tampa Bay's games. It's certainly not our favorite look of the week with the Bucs traveling on a short week, but that's the only direction we could go. Starting center Erik McCoy and both running backs, Kendre Miller and Alvin Kamara, suffered season-ending injuries in last week's loss to the Bears. The Saints' rushing attack will be starting completely from scratch this week, which puts a lot more on the shoulders of Rattler and the passing game. That doesn't feel like a winning recipe in The Big Easy.

THE PLAY: Total Under 45.0 (-110)
What a difference a year makes, huh? Texas was a 37-point favorite in this matchup last September and now the Longhorns are only laying a touchdown to the Bulldogs. Texas needed overtime to get past Kentucky last week as a double-digit road favorite. This will be the Longhorns' third-straight game away from home. The under is 5-2 in Texas' games this season. Mississippi State is 6-1 against the spread this season. Just like Texas, the under is also 5-2 in the Bulldogs' games this season. Over the last two seasons, Mississippi State has gone 7-4 against the spread in SEC games. If we had a "just missed the cut" category for Key Releases, the under in this game would have been at the top of this list. Both defenses are equipped to stop what the other offense wants to do. Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian continues to say all of the right things in the media, but it's clear that this offense is not going to improve this season with Arch Manning at the helm. Texas is outside the top-100 in EPA per play, offensive success rate and passing success rate. Play the Under.
