THE PLAY: Detroit Lions -6.0 (-112)

Take Detroit (#264)

The Packers dominating defensive showing against Washington on Thursday Night tells us that Detroit's ‘no-show’ on offense last week had more to do with Jeff Hafley's defense than their own issues.  The quotes coming out of Dan Campbell's locker room this week speak of a motivated favorite, primed for redemption agianst a Bears team travelling on a short week off a truly demoralizing loss on Monday Night.  Chalk worth laying!  Take the Lions.

THE PLAY: Florida +7.5 (-115)

Take Florida (#171)

This is a classic early season ‘buy low’ opportunity on the Florida Gators, primed to bounce back from their sluggish no-show loss to South Florida last weekend.  The Gators beat the Tigers by double digits last year, and Billy Napier's best pointspread role in his current job has been as a road underdog, cashing at a 67% clip.  Expect a battle, not a blowout.  Take Florida

THE PLAY: Miami Dolphins -122

Take Miami on the MONEYLINE (#252)

I understand how awful the Dolphins were in Week 1, embarrassed at Indianapolis.  Mike McDaniel summed it up: “When you lose the turnover game (minus-3), you turn the ball over on downs, you run into the kicker, you have 12 guys in the huddle, and you only have 20 minutes with the ball in your possession, that’s a formula for failure and nothing else.  We have one direction to go from here —and it’s the opposite direction of what this effort produced.”  Tua, following the game: "We don't want to overreact, and we don't want to underreact -- we want to make sure we get this right so that this never happens again."  This game is Miami’s season and they know it.  Heck, it could be McDaniel’s job, and he knows it.  I’m expecting a MUCH better effort AND execution this week against a Patriots team that went 4-13 last year; looking very much like a 4-13 type team in 2025, despite the coaching change.  In this ‘very short favorite’ pointspread range, I’ll take Miami on the MONEYLINE, so we get paid if they win, regardless of margin.  Take the Dolphins on the Moneyline.

THE PLAY: Boston College -12.5 (-110)

Take Boston College (#197) 

Stanford football has been a train wreck dating back to the end of the David Shaw era.  The Cardinal haven’t won more than four games in a season since 2018; they entered the 2025 season on a truly dismal 14-34 ATS run since 2021.  When Troy Taylor was fired following an investigation into his conduct in March and Frank Reich took over, just about everyone who could transfer out of town did. The early season results have been predictable – losses to Hawaii and BYU to open up the season.  Playing at The Farm isn’t likely to help – this is no strong homefield – and even off an OT loss, BC is a clear choice to bounce back on Saturday Night.  Chalk worth laying!  Take Boston College.
