THE PLAY: James Madison to Win the Sun Belt East Division
The quality of play in the Sun Belt has improved dramatically over the last few years, but James Madison should be the class of the East Division in 2025. Marshall won the division (and conference) last season, but head coach Charles Huff went to Southern Miss and took several key pieces with him. The West Division is going to be loaded with intriguing storylines this season: How quickly can Huff build Southern Miss? Can South Alabama's offense continue to cook without QB Gio Lopez? Does Texas State have one foot out the conference realignment door? But in the East, James Madison should have a very favorable path toward the Sun Belt Championship Game. According to the odds board, the two biggest challengers to the Dukes in the East are Georgia Southern and Old Dominion. James Madison gets to host both of those teams in Harrisonburg. Head coach Bob Chesney has been very complimentary of the pieces that the Dukes will welcome on offense this season. "The quarterback room, the receiver room, the running back room, there’s a whole lot more in here than we might have had a year ago," Chesney said. That's a scary proposition for the rest of the league, considering the Dukes have consistently performed at the top of the conference.
