Roma vs Lazio Analysis
Full attendance in the Stadio Olimpico expected for the first time in over two years for the historic ‘Derby della Capitale’ on Sunday as Rome arch-rivals Lazio and Roma face off with just one point separating either team ahead of this weekend’s clash in the race for European qualification.
Roma come into this one going unbeaten over their last eight games in all, with four of those registering as draws, while Lazio come in off back-to-back wins against relegation battlers Cagliari and Venezia respectively.
Lazio won the reverse fixture between these two 3-2 back in September in a pulsating clash.
Lazio’s New Defensive Shape
While the ‘Biancocelesti’ have been electric in offense over the last few seasons, it’s actually been in defense where they’ve marked a noticeable improvement this year.

Roma’s battling spirit in games has helped them grind out a current eight game unbeaten run this year, with three of their last five goals arriving after the 90th minute.

While Lazio come in to this one off back-to-back wins, they came against teams 17th place or lower, and they’ll face a much stiffer test here on Sunday against a Roma team who just don’t know how to lose right now.
Roma’s last three opponents have averaged just 0.78 xGA against this Roma backline as the ‘Giallorossi’ have given up the third fewest shots to opponents in the league this season.
Lazio are aiming for consecutive season league sweeps over Roma for the first time since 2012, so it’s likely we get a best effort here from Roma on Sunday to thwart their arch-rivals from gaining bragging rights.
