PSG vs Rennes Betting Analysis
Top five clash over in French Ligue 1 on Sunday as 5th placed Rennes travel to Parc des Princes in Paris to take on runaway league leaders PSG this weekend.
PSG were eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich last week in what was a fairly tepid performance from the French giants overall as they generated fewer shots on goal, fewer dangerous attacks, and less offensive xG than their German counterparts in that game.
Rennes also exited Europe last month, getting knocked out of the Europa League by Shakhtar Donetsk, and have won just five of their last twelve league games across 2023.
That puts them in real danger of slipping out of the European places completely if they continue on their current downward trajectory. Rennes have actually won two of the last three head-to-head meetings between these two sides.
However, both of those wins came at home for Rennes, while in Parc des Princes they haven’t been nearly as effective, with PSG winning six of the last seven meetings overall and outscoring Rennes in those seven games by a combined 17-3 scoreline as well.
Offensive Issues Haunt Rennes Recent Run
Rennes’ issues of late have largely come from an inability to find the back of the net, an issue highlighted yet again by another goalless draw against relegation-battling Auxerre last weekend.
That’s now back-to-back scoring blanks for Bruno Genesio’s men and an area they really need to clean up quickly if they’re going to maintain their European spot for next season.
PSG Flat After European Exit
It took an incredibly late 90th-minute winner from Kylian Mbappe to see off 16th-placed Brest on the road last weekend as the Parisians looked flat after their European exit in midweek against Bayern Munich.
With a current ten-point lead at the top of French Ligue 1 and little in the way of other silverware to look forward to after being eliminated from both the Champions League and the Coupe de France, it’ll be interesting to see if Christophe Galtier can continue to motivate his team over the final eleven games of the season.
PSG vs Rennes Expert Prediction
With PSG looking so labored across recent games, as well as Rennes struggling to score of late also, getting this total up to 3.25 on Sunday looks like a good value play considering how both teams have been performing recently.
With Martin Terrier, Rennes’ top goalscorer this season, still out for the away side, plus Neymar also absent for this one with an ankle concern, that only further adds value to the under in our mind.
Take the Under 3.25 goals [alternative line at some books] in the matchup between Rennes and PSG on Sunday over in French Ligue 1.
Prediction: Under 3.25 (-150)
