Liverpool vs West Ham Betting Analysis
Liverpool finally kicked their season into gear on Sunday with a fantastic 1-0 win over Manchester City at Anfield, handing the Cityzens their first loss of the season as a result.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will now look to build on that momentum here after a 7-1 destruction of Rangers last week also, but they face a West Ham side on Wednesday who have covered this +1.5 goal spread in four of their last five matchups against Liverpool in the Premier League.
West Ham, for their part, struggled to a 1-1 draw away to Southampton over the weekend, which was an extremely disappointing result considering they dominated the game, registering 61-percent possession and 25 goal attempts but simply couldn’t find the winner.
Liverpool has won all of the previous five head-to-head meetings against West Ham at Anfield over recent seasons, out-scoring the Hammers by a combined 14-4, but have only covered this goal spread in two of those five contests.
West Ham’s Offense Continues To Stutter
Despite being a top-10 offense this season (at least by xG data), West Ham just can’t seem to put the ball in the back of the net with any real regularity this season, with only Wolves having a bigger overall deficit than West Ham this year in terms of scoring opportunity conversion rate.
New summer signing Gianluca Scamacca has failed to set the league alight since joining, although so have a lot of West Ham players, with Scamacca, Bowen, and Antonio all tied on just two goals this season.
Liverpool Finally Turning A Corner
It was always liable to be backs-against-the-wall time on Sunday with Liverpool so far behind in the title race and welcoming in the Premier League champions to Anfield, but Liverpool duly delivered, putting in one of their best performances of the season so far in a result that will give them massive confidence ahead of this one.
That win on Sunday also marks a very tough schedule for Liverpool over recent games, facing solid teams in Ajax, Brighton, Arsenal, and Manchester City, all in quick succession, and that run will likely stand them in good stead ahead of this one.
Liverpool vs West Ham Prediction
Going by data alone, West Ham is an easy play here as over the month of October, the Hammers rank No. 1 in xPTS in the league, No. 1 in defensive xGA, and No. 3 in offensive xG.
However, that’s slightly misleading as, since mid-September, West Ham has arguably faced one of the weakest schedules in the league, playing Everton, Wolves, Fulham and Southampton, with the only two wins over that run coming at home for them as well.
Liverpool will represent a significant step-up here for West Ham on Wednesday and Jurgen Klopp will know his men cannot rest on their laurels ahead of this one as, despite Sunday’s huge win over Manchester City, the Reds still sit 14 points off the pace in the league and another win will be paramount here if they’re going to get back in the hunt.
West Ham has been given plenty of chances to score over recent games but have simply failed to convert, and on Wednesday they likely won’t even be given that as they look to sit deep and try to contain a Liverpool side in some absolutely ruthless form right now in front of goal.
