AC Milan vs Inter Milan Analysis
Arch-rivals Inter and AC Milan face off for the 231st edition of the ‘Derby della Madonnina’ on Tuesday night in what is no doubt one of the most fiercely contested rivalries in all of Europe, and one likely not to get any tamer by the fact that this is a huge semifinal between the pair.
Inter crashed out at this stage of the competition last year to eventual winners Juventus and will no doubt hope to go one better this time around.
Revenge on AC Milan’s Mind
AC Milan suffered a heartbreaking loss in last year’s Coppa Italia quarterfinal to Inter and will be looking for some payback ahead of this one.
Milan went up early in that game through a well-worked Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal with Inter equalizing late on through a Romelu Lukaku penalty before snatching a late winner heading into extra-time through Christian Eriksen.
Neither of those players are with Inter any longer however, with both making the move to England, so AC Milan will no doubt be hoping that’s the change needed here in order to reverse last year’s result.
Inter’s Current Winless Streak
Seven-time Coppa Italia champions Inter have seen their blistering form to start off the year come to a grinding halt over recent weeks as they’ve secured just one win over their last six matchups in all, that coming against relegation candidates Venezia well over a month ago.
A poor 0-0 draw against 19th placed Genoa last Friday was hardly the display Inter would have preferred coming into this game, but at least the ‘Nerazzurri’ had a high number of attacks in that game, outshooting Genoa three-to-one, yet still never looked particularly threatening in front of goal.
AC Milan vs Inter Milan Prediction
We’re going to look towards taking the under 2.5 in this one on Tuesday between Inter and AC Milan.
Inter just hasn’t been scoring in front of goal of late with three consecutive results to nil for the Serie A champions entering Tuesday’s matchup, and in current form, it looks extremely unlikely they’ll be able to penetrate this excellent AC Milan defense tonight either.
AC Milan have allowed the fifth-fewest goals on the season to date over in Serie A and this is backed up by the data as well, as the ‘Rossoneri’ own the league’s fourth-best expected goals against rating this season also.
And it hasn’t just been AC Milan who have been effective on defense this year, with Inter also allowing the second-fewest goals allowed this season at just 0.85 goals per game with the league’s third-best xGA rating as well.
We see this one playing out in a similar manner here tonight with both sides stifling the others attack in what could well end up being a low scoring draw over 90 minutes on Tuesday.
