Rangers vs Blues Analysis

The St. Louis Blues are riding red-hot coming into Wednesday’s game against the New York Rangers, winning four games straight and covering the puckline in every single one.

The Rangers meanwhile come off a really sub-par loss against Vancouver on Sunday, giving up five goals to the Canucks and have now dropped three of their last five games overall heading into tonight’s matchup.

This will be the team’s first meeting of the season with Game 2 scheduled in St. Louis for next week.

St. Louis’ Blistering Offense

The extended road trip coming out of the break for St. Louis seems to have suited them, winning six of their last seven games outright and scoring a pretty impressive 3+ goals in nine of their last twelve contests as well.

On top of this, the Blues have notched a remarkable 31 goals over their last seven games in all, as they’re in some absolutely blistering form right now, ranking first overall in the league on total shots to goal percentage this season.

Rangers Struggling for Production

The Rangers meanwhile have been anything but hot in front of goal over recent games, putting up just three goals total over the weekend against the Penguins and Canucks respectively, two of which came as almost consolation prizes in the third period of that Canucks game in a matchup they were getting blown out in by Vancouver.

The Rangers have now scored two or fewer goals in five of their last six outings as they continue to struggle with form in front of nets since coming out of the break two weeks ago.

Rangers vs Blues Prediction

Both Igor Shesterkin and Ville Husso are expected in nets tonight for the Rangers and Blues respectively, with both goalies ranking top-5 in the league this year.

Husso is averaging a .931 SV% on the road this season while Shesterkin is allowing just 1.91 goals per game on average at home this year, along with the league’s best overall GSAA average as well.

But despite all the good feedback concerning the goalies stats here, we nevertheless like goals in this one, especially on the St. Louis side, and fully expect them to eclipse their team total of 2.5 here on Wednesday.

While Shesterkin has no doubt been excellent all year, in games he’s lost in this season, he’s averaged 3.21 goals per game to opponents and the Rangers rank 25th on the year on defensive expected goals against also.

With the form St. Louis are currently in right now, we expect goals in this one and we’re taking the St. Louis Blues’ team total over 2.5 goals on Wednesday night against the New York Rangers.
