Kansas City Chiefs vs Jacksonville Jaguars Betting Analysis

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs will take the field at Arrowhead Stadium for Divisional Round playoff game on Saturday afternoon. The Chiefs won the AFC West and earned themselves a first round bye that they enjoyed last week.

The Jaguars completed an amazing comeback to beat the Los Angeles Chargers 31-30 in the Wild Card round. Kansas City beat Jacksonville 27-17 at home on November 13th. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 PM EST/1:30 PST from Kansas City, MO.

Super Bowl or Bust For Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs finished the regular season 14-3 and came away with the #1 seed in the AFC. They jumped out to a 20 point lead in their Week 10 win against Jacksonville, but Jacksonville hung around til the end.

Based on that and last week’s results, Mahomes & company won’t overlook the Jags this week. The Chiefs were the #1 team in scoring with 29.2 points a game and yardage with 413.6 per game.

They ranked 2nd in both third down and red zone conversions. Patrick Mahomes set the all-time record for combined yardage for a quarterback with 5,250 passing yards, 358 rushing yards and 45 total touchdowns.

Rookie running back Isiah Pacheco paced the team on the ground with 830 yards on 170 carries with 5 touchdowns.

No surprise, Travis Kelce was the Chiefs top receiver with 110 receptions for 1,138 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Kansas City defense ended the season 16th in points allowed with 21.7 per game and 11th in yards allowed per game with 328.2 per game.

Linebacker Nick Bolton led the Chiefs in tackles with 180 while Chris Jones finished the season 4th in the NFL in sacks with 15.5.

Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been designated to return from injured reserve while wide receiver Mecole Hardman and defensive end Frank Clark are both listed as questionable.

Jaguars Need Hot Start

The Jacksonville Jaguars are fresh off one of the most impressive comebacks in NFL post-season history. The Jags were down 27, and stormed back to win 31-30 behind sophomore quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

The Clemson product put four interceptions in the rear view mirror and threw for four touchdown passes. The Jaguars need to put that win behind them and avoid falling into an insurmountable hole against a team as talented as Kansas City.

Jacksonville ranked 10th in both scoring and yardage with 23.8 points and 357.4 yards respectively. The Jags finished the year 13th in third down conversions and 17th in red zone efficiency.

Lawrence led the offense with 4,113 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Travis Etienne paced the teams rushing attack with 1,125 yards and five touchdowns on 220 carries. Christian Kirk was the Jags leading receiver with 82 receptions for 1,108 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Jacksonville surrenders 20.6 points (12th) and 353.3 total yards (24th) per game. Linebacker Foyesade Oluokun led the team in tackles with 184 while linebacker Josh Allen paced the team in sacks with five.

While expected to play, Trevor Lawrence is questionable with a toe injury along with center Luke Fortner, guard Brandon Scherff and long snapper Ross Matiscik.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Jacksonville Jaguars Same Game Parlay Prediction

The Kansas City Chiefs 8.5 point home favorites with a total set at 53. This is the classic David vs Goliath matchup between the new kids on the block and a permanent post-season fixture.

I have some strong feelings on this game and it seems like a perfect setup to utilize a same game parlay. Patrick Mahomes has thrown two or more touchdown passes in 12 of 17 regular season games for a 71% success rate.

This includes the final week of the season in a victory where he didn’t have to throw often against Jared Stidham and the Oakland Raiders. Mahomes threw four touchdowns passes in Week 10 against a Jags defense that allowed the 10th most touchdown passes (25).

Kansas City is known for jumping out to big leads, especially at home in the Divisional Round. They have led after the first half in 3 of the last 4 seasons, only falling short in a tie against the Buffalo Bills last year.

The Chiefs led 20-7 at halftime of their game against Jacksonville on November 13th. If Kansas City has a lead, Trevor Lawrence will surely be slinging it. Lawrence has thrown for 200+ yards in 13 of 18 games including the playoffs for a 72% success rate.

He threw for 259 in his regular season meeting against the Chiefs pass defense that allowed the 8th most passing yards with 243.3 per game. This play would have cashed in their first matchup and considering how I see this contest playing out, even money seems like a fair price.

Same Game Parlay
Patrick Mahomes 2+ TD Passes
Trevor Lawrence Over 199.5 Pass Yds
Kansas City Chiefs -0.5 1st Half
