Trail Blazers vs Lakers Analysis

Both teams are coming off losses last night, and Portland is waving the white flag on the season while the Lakers are stumbling their way through the West. The books clearly don’t think Portland is going to be competitive moving forward as they have the Lakers as -8.5 favorites tonight with a total of 224.5 points, but is there any value in this game? I believe there is, so let’s dive in and find a winning play.

PORTLAND REBUILDING

With the trade of CJ McCollum, and Dame Lilliard probably out for the year, the Trailblazers are done making a playoff run and they’ve moved into complete rebuild mode. From a betting perspective, that means throw all the ATS and Totals trends out the window and this marks the start of a new season.

Their starting lineup is rough tonight…Simons, McLemore, Elleby, Winslow and Nurkic, and they’re coming off a blowout loss to Orlando. Nobody had 20 points or more last night, and I’m not sure what can change with them in the near future.

LAKERS NOT ON CHAMPIONSHIP LEVEL

After getting drubbed by the Champs last night Lebron declared that the Lakers aren’t on their level, and that’s an accurate statement, but losing big to the Bucks is different than losing big to the Magic. Their offense wasn’t terrible, but they couldn’t defend the Bucks at all, and last nights game was really a glimpse as to what the Bucks can be when they are at their peak when I’m not sure anyone can stop them.

The Lakers are 2-5 in their last seven games with their wins being against the Knicks and this Trailblazers team who had Covington, Powell, and McCollum. The Lakers are 6-4 ATS, and I have a feeling they’ll improve on that record tonight.

TRAIL BLAZERS vs LAKERS PREDICTION

I’m going to be fading Portland for the foreseeable future. It’s an organization that wants to lose right now, and tonight is a really good spot for the Lakers to add a win to their record. The Blazers players can’t be organized or in sync, and losing by 18 to Orlando is a sign of things to come. It’s a big number at 8.5, but as long as Lebron and/or Davis plays I’ll take the Lakers.

OFFICIAL PLAY: Lakers -8.5. My advice is to wait to confirm that Lebron and/or Davis before betting. If one or both of them play, the Lakers should roll.

Trail Blazers vs Lakers Preview from GoldSheet

The Lakers appeared resigned and depressed after being taken to the woodshed by Milwaukee., and Russell Westbrook has become persona non grata, as Frank Vogel has cut down his minutes in crunchtime.

Portland finally did the deed and traded CJ McCollum to New Orleans along with Larry Nance and Tony Snell and will receive Josh Hart, Tomas Satoransky, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and some draft picks and cap space. The Pels were looking for some backcourt scoring help, and it appears they hit the motherload with McCollum.

The Lakers have covered seven of the last ten meetings with Portland, and the series is 8-3 “under” the totals on this series since August of 2020. Coming off a humiliating loss at the hands of Eastern rep Milwaukee, LA should come out with some fight.
