Spurs vs Jazz Analysis
Dejounte Murray and the San Antonio Spurs host Donovan Mitchell and the Utah Jazz for a Friday night NBA clash of Western Conference foes. This is the third and final meeting between these two teams this season. The previous two games both took place in December and each team got a win on their opponent’s home court. However, The Spurs covered the spread on both occasions.
Not Much Defense
Over their last ten games, the Spurs are just 4-6 and are allowing opponents to average 121.1 points per game. Head coach Gregg Popovich still needs one more win to pass Don Nelson on the all-time leaderboard for head coach wins. However, the way the Spurs have been playing, this win may be awfully hard to come by.
In any case, the Spurs are a better team defensively at home, so ideally the Spurs can contain Mitchell.
Jazz Not Great as a Home Favorite
The Jazz are coming off a victory on Wednesday where they absolutely dismantled the lowly Portland Trail Blazers. The Jazz are 7-3 in their last 10 games and have held opponents to 107.9 points per game while they are averaging 114.6.
The Jazz are 4-3 as a home favorite of 6.5 to 9 points but are 14-19 as a home favorite for the entire season. The Jazz should have no notable injuries for this game.
Spurs vs Jazz Prediction
Since the Spurs have covered both of their matchups earlier this season, and the Jazz have come back alive after a slow stretch in the middle of the season, it would seem as if the Jazz should cover this point spread.
However, I am more interested in the total for this matchup and I like the game to go under 228 points. The Spurs have the ability to lock in defensively when they play at home and the Jazz are also not an offensive juggernaut. While they can score points, they are better defensively, and I can see this matchup being more of a scrappy contest than a bucket-for-bucket shootout.
