Pistons vs Cavs Analysis

Thursday marks the return to NBA action after the All-Star break, and after hosting the NBA’s best all weekend, the Cavaliers will now travel to Detroit to take on the Pistons in the first matchup since the break.

The Pistons are in second-to-last place in the Eastern Conference while the Cavs are in the midst of a great season. These teams split their first two meetings this season.

The Powerless Pistons

The Pistons have won three out of their last 17 games this season. Over the last five games, the Pistons are 1-4 against the spread. Over their last 10 games, the Pistons are allowing opponents to score an average of 116.7 points per game. There are no notable injuries for the Pistons tonight.

Cavs Keep Cashing

The Cavs hosted the All Star game in Cleveland and had two of their young stars play in the matchup. Fast forward to today, and the Cavs are looking at a legitimate chance to win 50 games this season. The Cavs are 6-4 in their last 10 games and have been shooting a scorching 46.6% from the floor. Darius Garland and Caris LeVert are both expected to miss tonight’s contest.

Pistons vs Cavs Prediction

The Cavs are 7-point road favorites in Detroit with the total sitting at 208.5 points. The Pistons have a hard time scoring and the Cavs are No. 1 in the NBA in points allowed this season.

I am looking at under 208.5 points in this Eastern Conference matchup. These teams have already played twice this season, so there’s plenty of familiarity. I expect both teams to be fresh out of the All Star break.

The Cavs want to prove they are a legitimate playoff team, while the Pistons are hoping the ping pong balls bounce in their favor during the NBA lottery. Prior to the All-Star break, the under cashed in eight of Cleveland’s previous 12 games. I expect that trend to continue on Thursday night with a Cavs win and the game to go under the total.

Pistons vs Cavs Player Props

From GoldSheet: Cade Cunningham was named MVP of the Rising Stars event last weekend, and will likely draw the full attention of Cleveland’s defense. That could leave the door open for Saddiq Bey, who’s been lighting up the scoreboard for Detroit recently. His scoring prop at DraftKings is set at 16.5 points tonight, which is a mark that he has eclipsed in seven of his last eight games. The second-year pro out of Villanova dropped 31 on the Cavs when these two teams met four weeks ago.
