Phoenix Suns vs Golden State Warriors Analysis

This matchup between the leagues top two teams is easily the best of the NBA’s Christmas day slate. The Suns are the leagues top team at 26-5 and have won five straight games. Meanwhile the Warriors are only a half game behind the Suns at 25-5 and have won five of their last six games.

These teams split back-to-back games about a month ago with each team winning at home, the Suns 104-96 and the Warriors 118-96. They will also meet again at the end of March for their final regular season showdown.

The Warriors are coming off a an impressive 113-104 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday. Steph Curry drained 8 three-pointers on his way to a game high 46 points while Draymond Green chipped in with 8 points and 9 assists. Curry may need a similar effort to beat the Suns, as the Warriors will once again be without Jordan Poole, Andrew Wiggins and Damion Lee. All three players are on the leagues health and safety protocols list.

Golden State has lost the last three games they have played in Phoenix, they haven’t scored a victory there since February of 2020. The Warriors are the league’s best-rated defense and score the 4th most points per game as well.

The Phoenix Suns are coming off a 113-101 home win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night. Devin Booker led the team with 30 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists, while DeAndre chipped in with 19 points and 12 rebounds. The Suns continue their dominance at home, they haven’t lost their since October and are 15-2 at home on the season.

The Suns are right behind the Warriors in defensive rating at #2 and right in front the Warriors in points scored at #3. It looks like the Suns will be at full strength, unlike most teams they have managed to avoid Covid issues.

What a matchup, hands down the best two teams in the league, if only the Warriors were at full strength. The Suns are 6-point favorites with an over/under of 216.5. Both teams play towards the under, the Suns over/under ATS record is 14-17 while the Warriors are 9-21-2.

The under has cashed in 10 of the last 11 head-to-head meetings between these teams. This game will be nationally televised with bragging rights on the line, so both teams should take this game seriously and up their defensive efforts. You guessed it…. I’m taking the under in a matchup of the leagues top two defenses.

It’s the holiday season, so in the spirit of giving I’ll include a player prop. This won’t be popular. Steph Curry only scored 12 & 23 points in the two games against the Suns this season. Curry is the Santa Clause of the NBA, as he shows up each and every Christmas. However, he has struggled in his eight Christmas games, he’s only scored 19, 15, 15, 19, 14, 15, 4 & 4. Extremely low point totals, especially for a player of his caliber. His point prop total is 30.5, we are going to hope that this trend continues and the Suns clamp down on defense.

Official Play: UNDER 216.5
Official Player Prop: Steph Curry UNDER 30.5 Points

Phoenix Suns vs Golden State Warriors Preview from GoldSheet

Golden State lost F Andrew Wiggins to Covid protocols this week, as he won’t clear quarantine until Dec. 29, joining backup G Jordan Poole in the system (day-to-day), so we’ll to see if Poole can test out by the time this one tips off. Home team has won and covered 5 straight in this series, and the “under” is 10-1 in the last 11 when these two meet.

The first two meetings were split, with the Suns taking a 104-96 decision at the Footprint Center behind Deandre Ayton’s 24 pts and 11 rebounds, while Chris Paul had 15 pts., 11 assists and 5 streals. Devin Booker was injured in that game after scoring 10 pts. in 15 minutes and was forced to sit out the next 7 games, including the second match against the Warriors which was played 3 days later, when the Warriors returned the favor in style, snuffing the Suns out like a candle after Christmas dinner, with a 118-96 payback.
