Golden State Warriors vs Phoenix Suns Betting Analysis
The Phoenix Suns are heading back to Cali for a Western Conference tilt with the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday evening. The Warriors are coming off their second straight loss 115-101 at home against the Orlando Magic.
The Suns lost their 6th straight game 112-98 at home against the Cleveland Cavaliers. This will be the third of four meetings between these squads as Phoenix prevailed in the first two games by scores of 134-105 & 130-119. Tip-off is scheduled for 10:10 PM EST/7:10 PST from the Chase Center.
Wounded Warriors
The Golden State Warriors dropped back to .500 with a 20-20 record after losing to Orlando on Saturday. The Magic dominated the interior as they outscored Golden State 52-26 in the paint.
It’s not a good sign that Anthony Lamb led the team in scoring with 26 points off the bench. Jordan Poole added 21 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds while Kevon Looney chipped in with 7 points and 12 rebounds.
The Warriors have scored at will as they rank 6th with 116.8 points per game on 47.2% from the field. Defense has been a struggle for the Dubs as they sit at 19th in defensive rating and 26th in scoring with 117.5 points allowed per game.
Steph Curry is now listed a questionable with a shoulder injury while Klay Thompson is probable with a knee injury. James Wiseman, Johnathan Kuminga and JaMychal Green have all already been ruled out for this contest.
Not In My Book
The Phoenix Suns record dropped to 20-21 on the season after losing their 6th straight game to Cleveland on Sunday. The Cavaliers had a tremendous shooting advantage as they went 45-78 for 57.7% while Phoenix went only 37-84 for 44%.
It’s not a good sign that Duane Washington Jr led the team in scoring with 25 points off the bench. De’Andre Ayton recorded a 14 point, 11 rebound double-double along with 6 assists while Mikal Bridges chipped in with 15 points.
The Suns rank below average in scoring with 112.7 points a game on 46.5% from the field. They have been better on defense where they sit at 13th in defensive efficiency and 6th in scoring with 111 points allowed per game.
Chris Paul can be add to the list of Suns players already ruled along with Devin Booker, Cameron Payne and Cameron Johnson. On top of that, De’Andre Ayton, Landry Shamet and Torrey Craig are all questionable for tonight’s contest.
Golden State Warriors vs Phoenix Suns Prediction
The Golden State Warriors enter this contest as heavy home favorites with a spread of 11.5 and a total of 229.5. These were two teams considered to be strong contenders in the post-season, however injuries have kept both teams around .500 for through the first 40 games of the season.
The Warriors may get Steph Curry back tonight while the Suns are absolutely decimated by injuries. Phoenix has struggled to get out of the gate as they sit second to LAST with an average of only 27 1st quarter points per game.
The Suns also score the LEAST amount of 1st quarter points on the road with only 26 points a game and are even worse over their last three games with 21 points per 1st quarter.
The Warriors actually thrive in 1st quarter scoring, the MOST points with 31.3/game, MOST at home with 32.3/game and 5th in their last three games with 31.3/game. The 1st Quarter spread for this contest is 4, the Warriors have covered this number in 4 of their last 7 games with wins by 12, 16, 11 and 4.
The Suns have lost 6 of their last 7 games by 4+ points with losses by 9, 7, 12, 9 and 15. They also were behind in the 1st quarter of the 7th game, but only lost by one point.
I just don’t see where the Suns points are coming from, even if Ayton plays, Phoenix has no guard play without Paul, Booker and Payne. All the trends point to Golden State dominating at home in the first quarter and covering this spread.
