Dallas Mavericks vs Utah Jazz Analysis
The Utah Jazz wrap up a long road trip at American Airlines Center in Dallas against the Mavericks. The Mavericks survived playing without Luka Doncic and won a 114-113 nail-bitter against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night. Meanwhile the Jazz bounced back from a pathetic performance with a 116-103 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder yesterday afternoon.
Utah has prevailed in both head-to-head meetings at home, 120-116 on Christmas Day and 114-109 on February 25th. These squads will meet for a fourth and final time on March 27th in Dallas.
Win One Without Luka
The new look Dallas Mavericks improved to 39-25 with a last second victory over the Sacramento Kings in their first game without Luka Doncic. Doncic showed up the injury report and missed the game with a toe sprain that head coach Jason Kidd wouldn’t elaborate on. It was the first game Doncic has missed since January 7th and 16th overall.
Spencer Dinwiddie scored a team and season high 36 points to go along withseven assists in his first start as a Maverick. Dallas came back from a 19-point deficit and ultimately won on a Dorian Finney-Smith triple from the corner with 3.3 seconds remaining on the clock. Jalen Brunson also chipped in 23 points and six assists.
While it looks like Luka Doncic will return on Monday night, both Jalen Brunson and Maxi Kleber are questionable with various injuries. The Mavs have hung their hats on defense as they rank second with only 103 points allowed per game, while playing at the league’s slowest pace. However the slow pace has stunted their offensive rankings as they are 25th with only 107 points scored per game.
Jazz Wrap Up Road Trip
The Utah Jazz won their 40th game of the season in Oklahoma City on Sunday night. Bojan Bogdanovic set a Jazz team record with a ridiculous 11 three-pointers on 18 attempts en route to 35 points. Donovan Mitchell also dropped 24 points and shelled out a season-high ten assists.
The Jazz responded in the best way possible after being embarrassed by the New Orleans Pelicans 124-90 in a game that wasn’t even as close as the score indicates. The five-game road trip also included a close victory over the Phoenix Suns and an overtime win over the Houston Rockets.
The Jazz come into Monday night’s contest with a clean injury report, however they are on a back-to-back so players could be rested. The Jazz score just shy of 114 points a game, ranking sixth in the NBA. Defensively they rank 11th with 107.6 points allowed per game to their rivals.
Dallas Mavericks vs Utah Jazz Prediction
This is a showdown between two of the premiere teams in Western Conference and will almost surely have playoff implications. You could easily make a case for either side as indicated by the near pick’em spread.
The Mavs are known for that slow methodical pace, while the Jazz are also a bottom-ten team in terms of pace. The Jazz, playing the second game of a back-to-back, could slow their pace even further. I’m expecting a playoff-type atmosphere and that means defense. All the signs point towards taking the under with confidence.
