Bulls vs Timberwolves Analysis

The Chicago Bulls tip-off a six game homestand on Friday night against the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves as they look to secure their bid as the No. 1 team in the East.

Minnesota meanwhile had their longest win streak of the season (tied) snapped on Wednesday as they lost the second of a back-to-back against the Sacramento Kings.

This will be the teams’ first meeting of the season.

Chicago’s Dynamic Duo

Chicago’s bid to become the best team in the East this season has fell firmly on the shoulders of two outstanding players in Demar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic.

DeRozan and Vucevic have combined for an electric 59.6 ppg over their last five starts with both men alternating as the Bulls top scorer going all the way back to January 14th.

Demar DeRozan leads the league in overall scoring this year with 1,396 total points with Nikola Vucevic 3rd overall in the league on defensive rebounds as well.

Minnesota Aiming for the Promised Land

Minnesota have two big men of their own this season in the shape of Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards, both of whom are aiming to push Minnesota into only their second playoff berth over the previous 17 seasons.

Both Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards rank top 20 in the league this season on overall points per game with 24.3 ppg and 22.0 ppg respectively, but they’ve been helped enormously by the production of D’Angelo Russell this year also, who went off for 29 points and 10 assists in Wednesday night’s loss to the Kings.

Bulls vs Timberwolves Prediction

We’re looking at the Minnesota Timberwolves plus the points in this one on Friday night against the Bulls.

Chicago comes off a blitzing 121-109 road win over Charlotte on Wednesday, but the Bulls shot absolutely lights out in that game and we expect that to regress returning home tonight.

The Bulls shot over 56% from the floor in that win, almost 9% more than their in-season average, and shot 16 of 33 from three point range as well as DeRozan and LaVine combined for a 57.1% effort from downtown.

We just don’t expect that to last here tonight as DeRozan averages just 34% from three point range with just 1.9 three point field goal attempts per game as well.

If Minnesota can respond from a rare off night in perimeter defense here, where they allowed 40%+ from three point range to a 21st ranked Sacramento team last time out, than they’re the value side in this one catching points.

Look for the Timberwolves to bounceback and cover tonight on the road against the Bulls.

Bulls vs Timberwolves Preview from GoldSheet

Home-oriented series has seen the host win and cover eight of last nine meetings. This is the first encounter in 2021-22 for these two, and Chicago, which had its “over” streak stopped at seven in Charlotte on Wednesday, is only 8-11 straight-up since Jan. 9, a downturn not unrelated to the loss of Lonzo Ball, who was injured Jan. 14 vs. Golden State, as well as his backup Alex Caruso (missed 23 of the last 25 games with various issues).

Minnesota has been on a different track, going 13-6 straight-up (covering five of their last six as well). However, Minnesota’s real trend has been “over” the totals, which is 27-10 in the Timberwolves last 37 games. Minnesota leads the league with the fastest pace over the past 15 games, and the oddsmakers have put this one up higher than any this season (Rockets Kings were 239 in their last encounter).
