NBA Player Props for Wednesday: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander OKC Thunder OVER 28.5 Points (-102)
Karl-Anthony Towns has stepped as a facilitator in the postseason while recording 6+ assists in 7 straight games and averaging 6.6 assists per game.
The Cleveland Cavaliers defensive system in the playoffs has been to force the ball out of the star players hands while forcing the opposition’s role players to beat them. Cleveland has allowed the 2nd most assists at the rim in the postseason and that area accounts for the majority of Towns assists.
KAT will be needed to play big minutes in this series to combat the frontcourt size of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley.
Towns has been very efficient with his playmaking including a perfect 10/10 on his assist/potential assists in his last game against Philadelphia.
The Knicks are -7-point home favorites where they scored 119 and 126 points against Cleveland this season and that sets KAT up for plenty of volume as a facilitator.
NBA Player Props for Wednesday: Alex Caruso OKC Thunder UNDER 16.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists (-128)
Alex Caruso went off for 34 PRA in Game 1 while shooting 11-19 from the field (58%) across 32 minutes in a double overtime game.
However, that was an outlier game as Caruso had fallen short of this line in 17 of 19 games prior to his Game 1 eruption.
Caruso obviously isn’t a priority for the San Antonio Spurs, but they still allowed the 3rd fewest PRA (32/game) and the 6th lowest shooting percentage to (39.6%) opposing shooting guards.
The Spurs are an elite defense overall as they have allowed the 3rd fewest points (103.8/game) and 2nd fewest assists (20.7/game) during their last 10 games.
We should also look for star players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to be much more aggressive after a Game 1 loss at home and that will take opportunities away from players like Caruso.
This line feels like a bit of an overreaction as we have a player coming off one huge game against a defense that normally shuts down his position.
