South Point 400 Track: Las Vegas Motor Speedway

The South Point 400 takes place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a fast 1.5-mile tri-oval that is one of NASCAR’s premier intermediate tracks.

The corners feature 20 degrees of banking, allowing drivers to carry tremendous speed while using multiple racing grooves as the track changes throughout the race. Las Vegas rewards cars with strong aerodynamic balance and raw speed, but tire management becomes increasingly important during longer green-flag runs.

Drivers can search from the bottom of the track all the way up near the outside wall for grip, making the ability to adjust to changing conditions extremely valuable. Kyle Larson, William Byron, Denny Hamlin, and Christopher Bell have been among the drivers who have shown strong speed on this style of 1.5-mile track, where the best intermediate programs generally rise to the front.

Track position and clean air are important, but pit strategy and late-race restarts can quickly shuffle the running order. The South Point 400 combines high speeds, multiple grooves, tire falloff, and playoff pressure, making Las Vegas an important test of both driver ability and overall team strength.

South Point 400 Head to Head Prediction: Kyle Larson -120 over Denny Hamlin

Larson had the perfect race last week on a mile and a half track, he won all the stages, won the race, and had fastest lap. He and the team are peaking at the right time, and earlier in the season the Toyota’s and Denny Hamlin were the best on these ovals by far.

NASCAR put in a new rule about the support struts on the splitter, and since that change, the Toyota’s haven’t been nearly as dominant. Larson’s last 3 finishes are 1st, 2nd, 1st so nobody has been better recently.

Denny has also said he wasn’t feeling right a few races ago, the tide has turned in NASCAR with Toyota’s falling off and Larson being the best in the sport right now.
