Toronto Blue Jays vs St. Louis Cardinals Analysis

The St. Louis Cardinals travel north for a quick two game set against the Toronto Blue Jays from Rogers Centre. The Jays are coming off a three game sweep that may have ended the Boston Red Sox season.

The Cards managed to lose two of three games in Cincinnati against the Reds. The young righty Andre Pallante draws the start for St. Louis, while the veteran Jose Berrios gets the nod for Toronto. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM EST/4:07 PST.

Cardinals Come in Shorthanded

The St. Louis Cardinals will be at a tremendous disadvantage for their series in Toronto, as their two top sluggers in Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado won’t be able to participate due to their vaccination status.

The Cardinals lost two of three games in Cincinnati despite having Goldschmidt & Arenado available to them, including a 6-3 loss on Sunday. Goldschmidt provided all the offense with two blasts for three RBI, but Miles Mikolas was hammered for six runs on seven hits in only five innings of work.

At full strength, St. Louis has had a tremendous offensive attack that ranks 8th in scoring and 11th in OPS. The 23 year-old rookie Andre Pallante will toe the rubber for the Cardinals. He’s 3-4 with a 3.34 ERA on the season. He took home the lone victory last series with five innings of three run baseball.

Berrios Plus Bats Equals Winning Combo

The Toronto Blue Jays enter this series on fire after dismantling the Boston Red Sox by a combined score of 40-10 across a three game sweep.

They won the final game of the series 8-4 behind a 4 for 5 performance at the plate from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Ross Stripling tossed four innings of two run baseball and the bullpen did the rest.

The Jays offense thumps as they rank 3rd in both runs scored and OPS. The 28 year-old righty Jose Berrios draws the start for Toronto. He has a bloated ERA and WHIP of 5.22 and 1.36, but has managed a 7-4 record. He has allowed only eight runs across 23.1 innings in his last four starts.

Toronto Blue Jays vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction

The Toronto Blue Jays enter this game heavily favored on a -230 money line, while the St.Louis Cardinals sit at +190 with a total of 8.5. This should be a great game between two playoff caliber teams, however the Cardinals come into town without the heart of the lineup.

The Jays enter the game as a buzzsaw that scored 40 runs in three games. Berrios should be easily navigate this lineup without Goldschmidt and Arenado and the bats will back him. Let’s ride the momentum with the Toronto run line at -110 odds.

Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 -105
