Toronto Blue Jays vs Baltimore Orioles Analysis

The Baltimore Orioles meet with the Toronto Blue Jays for the second of three games from Rogers Centre on Tuesday evening. The Orioles came out on top with a 7-3 wire-to-wire victory.

The Jays now find themselves in three way tie for the Wild Card spots with the Orioles only 1.5 games behind.

A couple of young right-handed pitchers will take the mound as Alek Manoah toes the rubber for Toronto and Dean Kremer takes the bump for Baltimore. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM EST/4:07 PST.

Jays Need To Stop Slide

The Toronto Blue Jays come out of the break hot with wins in 9 of 12 games. However they have hit the skids recently with losses in 7 of their last 9 games including a 7-3 loss against the Baltimore Orioles last night.

George Springer went 2 for 4 with a double and Vladimir Guerrero Jr launched his 24th homerun of the season. Yusei Kikuchi continued to struggle with six runs (three earned) allowed on four in 3.1 innings of work.

The Jays have one of the most potent offenses in the majors as they rank top ten in hits, runs, OPS, batting average and homeruns. They have hit a rough patch recently with only six runs scored in their last four games.

Toronto turns to Alek Manoah with hopes that he can play the role of stopper. He is 12-5 on the season with a 2.56 ERA and 1.02 WHIP. Monoah has faced the Orioles twice and has allowed a combined three runs on nine hits in 11 innings of work.

Orioles Continue To Surge

The Baltimore Orioles continued their pursuit of an American League Wild Card spot with a convincing 7-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday evening. They overcame a poor outing from Kyle Bradish where he gave up three runs in 4.2 innings.

Four Baltimore relievers combined for 4.1 scoreless innings to secure the victory. Ryan McKenna went 3 for 5 with two doubles from the leadoff spot and Ryan Mountcastle hit his 16th blast of the year.

After going 14-8 since the All-Star break the O’s currently sit only 1.5 games shy of a playoff spot. The Baltimore bats have heated up recently, but on the season they are a bottom ten offense in batting average and OPS.

Their recent stretch has been amazing based the fact that they sold both Trey Mancini and Jorge Lopez at the deadline. Dean Kremer will take the hill for Baltimore in game two of this series on Tuesday night.

He is 4-4 with a 3.69 ERA and 1.31 WHIP on the season. Kremer gave up four runs on six hits across 5.2 innings in his last start against the Boston Red Sox. Opposing batters are hitting .280 against Kremer on the season.

Toronto Blue Jays vs Baltimore Orioles Prediction

The Toronto Blue Jays are heavily favored with a money line set at -225, while the Baltimore Orioles sit at +190 with a total of 8.5. The Blue Jays lineup has been outstanding this season but has struggled recently, while the Orioles hitters been overachieving off late.

Baltimore has the edge in bullpen, while Toronto has the starting pitching advantage tonight. None of that seems to matter when these teams go head-to-head as the over is 7-0 in those games.

They scored 10 last night, 11 twice, 12 twice and 13 twice. Seven of the Orioles last ten games have cleared the total. This will be the 5th article I’ve written for this series in the past two weeks and the only game that didn’t cash was due to a rain out.

We said that we were riding the over til the wheels come off in this series and Akek Monoah isn’t going to scare me away from that.

Prediction: Over 8.5 Runs Scored -120
