Phillies vs Braves Prediction and Betting Preview | Wed May 28

Tempers flared in Tuesday’s Phillies vs Braves contest as Bryce Harper was hit with a pitch and will likely miss some time. Ranger Suarez led Philadelphia to a shut-out win last night, and history suggests that Zack Wheeler is capable of a similar performance on the mound on Wednesday.

Atlanta Braves
The Braves’ current roster is hitting .206 in 305 plate appearances against Philadelphia’s Zack Wheeler with a 29.8-percent strikeout rate and a .271 weighted on-base average. Since April 30, the Braves have scored an average of 3.75 runs per game.
Ronald Acuna Jr. (eight extra-base hits) is the only Braves hitter to have any kind of measurable success against Wheeler in this NL East matchup. Sean Murphy, Michael Harris II, Matt Olson, Austin Riley and Marcell Ozuna have each struck out in over 30-percent of their plate appearances against Wheeler.
Braves’ starter AJ Smith-Shawver is coming off his worst start of the season, but we’re willing to excuse that effort. He pitched against the Nationals on back-to-back starts, and in the first start, he allowed one run on two hits with six strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Washington tagged him in the rematch, but familiar short-turnaround situations like that almost always benefit the hitter.
Philadelphia Phillies
Bryce Harper will (likely) be out of the lineup after suffering a bruised elbow in Tuesday’s contest. Harper was hitting .308 with a .381 on-base percentage in the month of May before getting hit by Spencer Strider’s fastball.
Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park is normally one of the most hitter-friendly venues in baseball, but that won’t be the case on Wednesday with cool temperatures and a cross-breeze blowing in.
Phillies vs Braves Prediction
We’re going to focus on the under in the first five innings, which is widely available at 4 (u -125) at the time of posting on Wednesday morning. Both lineups have posted a 104 wRC+ against right-hand pitching this season, which is good but not great by any means (No. 15 and 16 in MLB this season).
First Five Innings Under 4 Runs (-125)
