New York Yankees vs Cincinnati Reds Analysis

The Cincinnati Reds continue their trip in the Big Apple on Wednesday night as they face the Yankees for the middle game of a three game set from Yankee Stadium.

These teams seasons have been polar opposites with the Reds historically bad 2-21 start, while only improving slightly and remaining as one of baseballs bottom five teams.

The Yankees were shot of a cannon and continued a torrid pace that has them head and shoulders above any team in the majors. However last night the Reds prevailed as they overcame a 3-0 deficit in the ninth inning and ultimately won 4-3.

Cincinnati now turns to the struggling southpaw Mike Minor, while the 28 year-old righty Luis Severino gets the nod for New York. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST/4:05 PST.

Yankees Pen Blows It

The Yankees blew a 3-0 lead in the ninth inning and last 4-3 after a dominant outing by Gerrit Cole. Cole threw seven scoreless innings while striking out 11 and scattering four hits and one walk.

Gleyber Torres had two doubles and Anthony Rizzo had two RBI. The Bronx Bombers were 49-0 this season when entering the 9th inning with a lead prior to last night’s implosion.

Clay Holmes had been nearly flawless as a closer, but could get a single out last night. Wandy Peralta came in and fell a strike shy of being the hero as Johnathan India hit what proved to be the game winning single. Regardless of last night’s outcome the Yankees are superior to the Reds on every level.

The Yanks offense is an absolute wagon that ranks 1st in runs scored, OPS and home runs. There are contributors but Aaron Judge’s 30 home runs and 65 RBI draws attention. Luis Severino will be looking to right the ship for the Bombers on Wednesday evening.

He owns a 5-3 record and a brilliant 3.11 ERA while striking out 94 batters across 84 innings. He was lights out in his last start against the Pittsburgh Pirates, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing only four hits. It was his third straight quality start.

Reds Running Hot

The Cincinnati Reds have won a season-high five straight games after completing an unlikely ninth inning comeback against the Yankees last night in the Bronx.

Johnathan India drove in two runs with a go-ahead, bases loaded single with two outs in the ninth to rally past the Yankees 4-3. Usually sharp closer Clay Holmes was unable to retire any of the five batters he faced against a Reds team that was 0-48 when trailing after eight innings this season.

Reds starter Graham Ashcroft gave his team a shot with five innings of three run baseball. The Cincinnati offense is below average at 18th in runs scored, but struggles in the power department as they are 23rd in OPS & 22nd in home runs.

Reds pitching has been horrific with a 5.29 team ERA that is dead last in all of baseball. Mike Minor is having a horrendous season, with a 1-6 record and 6.63 ERA. He allowed four runs in 6.1 innings last time out against a weak Pittsburgh Pirates lineup.

New York Yankees vs Cincinnati Reds Prediction

The New York Yankees are heavily favored with an obscene -315 money line, while the Cincinnati Reds sit at +260 with a total of 9. You would be hard-pressed to find a bigger mismatch in the league.

The Yankees excel across the board while the Reds have struggled to compete. I’m fully expecting the Bronx Bombers to release some frustration on the vulnerable Mike Minor.

The Yanks will also have opportunities to hammer a horrible bullpen that ranks dead last in ERA and 29th in WHIP. Let’s go with Yankees team total over 5.5 runs at a fair price of +100.

Prediction: New York Yankees Team Total OVER 5.5 +100 FD
