Minnesota Twins vs Toronto Blue Jays Analysis

The Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins meet for the second of four games from Target Field this weekend. The Twins will be looking to even things up after getting demolished 9-3 last night.

The Blue Jays improved their position as the top Wild Card team in the American League. Both teams have some fresh faces on their rosters as both potential playoff teams looked to improve at the deadline.

The newly acquired Tyler Mahle will make his debut for Minnesota, while Jays starter Jose Berrios will face his former team. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST/5:10 PST.

Mahle Makes Debut For Minnesota

The Minnesota Twins cling to a one game lead over the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central after yesterday’s 9-3 loss to Toronto.

Sonny Gray tossed five scoreless innings, but the bullpen was pounded in the final few innings. Jake Cave provided a little bit of offensive production with a solo-blast. Minnesota is now under .500 since the All-Star break with a 5-6 record.

The Twins have been one of the better lineups in baseball as they rank 7th in OPS and 13th in runs scored. The newly acquired Tyler Mahle makes his Minnesota Twins debut. He was 5-7 with a 4.40 ERA in his time with the Cincinnati Reds. Mahle is 3-2 with a 4.25 ERA across his last five starts.

Berrios Faces Former Team

The Toronto Blue Jays hope to continue their winning ways against the Minnesota Twins after yesterday’s 9-3 beat down victory. Vladimir Guerrero & Teoscar Hernandez both hit home runs and Bo Bichette went 3 for 5 with two runs scored.

Alek Manoah took care of his business with six innings of two run baseball. The Jays have a commanding three game lead in the American League Wild Card race. The Jays lineup is an absolute juggernaut that ranks 4th in scoring and 3rd in OPS.

Jose Berrios will face his former team as he played in Minnesota for the first six years of his career. On the season Berrios is 8-8 with a 4.96 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. He did face Minnesota once this season and held them to only two runs in seven innings.

Minnesota Twins vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction

The Toronto Blue Jays are favored with a -125 money line, while the Minnesota Twins sit at +105 with a total of 8.5. The Toronto Blue Jays are really starting to heat up and their lineup is loaded, especially with the addition of Whit Merrifield.

Both teams have made some moves that have strengthened their bullpens. Berrios is starting to come around and he has already proven that he can shutdown the Twins lineup. I’m backing the stronger team in better form for this bargain of a money line.

Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays -125
