Kansas City Royals vs Minnesota Twins Analysis

The Minnesota Twins travel to Kauffman Stadium to begin a three game series against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday evening. The Royals had a scheduled off day Monday after dropping two of three games in Boston against the Red Sox.

Meanwhile the Twins may have watched the door close on their post-season aspirations as they dropped four out of five games against the American League Central leading Cleveland Guardians.

This will be a showdown between two veteran righties as Dylan Bundy toes the rubber for Minnesota while Kansas City counters with Zack Greinke. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST/5:10 PST.

Royals Playing Out The String

The Kansas City Royals record fell to 58-89 on the season after losing 13-3 to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday afternoon. Kris Bubic was tagged for five runs on seven hits across only 2.2 innings of work. Salvador Perez went 2 for 4 while hitting his 22nd home run of the season.

The Royals are in the midst of another horrible campaign and are only a few games away from finishing dead last, not just in their division but the entire American League. The KC lineup has ranked bottom five for the across the entire season in categories like OPS and runs scored.

The crafty 38 year-old Zack Greinke will take the bump for Kansas City on Tuesday. He is 4-9 on the season with a 4.10 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and only 67 strikeouts across 118.2 innings pitched. Greinke has four starts against the Twins under his belt this season and has allowed 10 runs across 19 innings of work, resulting in an 0-4 record.

Twins Playoff Hopes Dwindling

The Minnesota Twins record fell to 73-74 after losing 11-4 to their division rivals the Cleveland Guardians on Monday evening. Starting pitcher Sonny Gray had an early exit due to hamstring tightness and gave up four runs on five hits across only two innings.

Second baseman Nick Gordon went 2 for 4 with two RBI and a solo-blast. Minnesota currently sits seven games behind the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central while the Chicago White Sox sit four games back.

The Twins have a middling lineup that currently ranks 11th in OPS and 16th in runs scored. Dylan Bundy will give it a go for Minnesota on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium.

Bundy is 8-7 on the season with a 4.68 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and only 87 strikeouts across 127 innings of work. He faced the Royals last week for the first time this season and allowed two runs across only four innings.

Kansas City Royals vs Minnesota Twins Prediction

The Minnesota Twins are small road favorites with a money line set at -130 while the Kansas City Royals sit at +110 with a total of 8.5. It looks like it’s going to be a scorcher on Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium as temperatures in the mid-90’s with humidity are expected.

The Royals have a tremendous rest advantage as they had Monday off while the Twins crammed five hard fought games in four days against the division leading Guardians. Greinkes home/road splits are well documented.

He is 4-2 with a 1.93 ERA and .250 OBA at Kauffman Stadium, compared to an 0-7 record, 6.36 ERA and .321 OBA on the road. That has translated into his starts against Minnesota as he allowed only one run in his lone home start but was mediocre to poor in three road outings.

These two pitchers went head-to-head last week and Minnesota barely eeked out a 3-2 victory. However Dylan Bundy only lasted four innings in that game and hasn’t lasted more than five innings in any of his last five outings.

The Twins have to be worn out and demoralized after losing four of five games to the division leaders this weekend. It feels like the perfect spot to roll with the underdogs at +110 odds.

Prediction: Kansas City Royals +110
