Kansas City Royals vs Chicago White Sox Analysis

The Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals square off in a quick one game makeup from Kauffman Stadium on Monday afternoon. The Royals lost three of the four games they played in Tampa Bay this weekend against the Rays.

Meanwhile the White Sox split what ended up being a two game series with the Cleveland Guardians after Sundays rain out. The Royals currently lead the season series 8-7 and these teams will meet for another three game set in Chicago.

The young southpaw Daniel Lynch will take the mound for Kansas City, while Chicago turns to the righty Michael Kopech. First pitch is for 2:10 PM EST/11:10 PST.

White Sox In Post-season Log Jam

The Chicago White Sox were rained out yesterday after evening up their series with a 2-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday night.

Johnny Cueto was magnificent as he tossed 8.2 scoreless innings while scattering five hits and a walk. Liam Hendricks came in for the final out of the game and earned his 28th save of the season. Jose Abreu had an RBI double which proved to be more than enough.

At 62-59 the Pale Hose currently sit 2.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central and 3.5 games behind in the Wild Card. The White Sox are inching closer to the offensive attack they displayed last season as they now rank 19th in both runs scored and OPS.

Michael Kopech will toe the rubber for ChiTown, he is 4-9 with a 3.25 ERA and 1.18 WHIP on the season. He’s faced the Royals twice this season and held them to four runs on nine hits across 12 innings of work. However there is some cause for concern, due to the fact that Kopech has a bloated hard hit% of 40.9.

No Crowns For Royals

The Kansas City Royals continue to be one of the absolute worst teams in the majors. They lost three of four games against the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend, including a 3-2 loss on Sunday.

Leadoff man MJ Melendez was the only Royal with a multi-hit game, going 2 for 4 with an RBI double. Zack Greinke started the game but only lasted four innings while giving up two runs on five hits.

A 49-74 record gives the Royals a pathetic .398 winning percentage, making them the American Leagues third worst team ahead of only the Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics. KC is also one of the bottom of the barrel offensively as they rank 24th in runs scored and 25th in OPS.

The Royals reluctantly turn to the southpaw Daniel Lynch to get them back on track. He is 4-8 with a 4.52 ERA and 1.47 WHIP on the season. He’s been brilliant in two outings against the White Sox, tossing 11.1 scoreless innings and scattering eight hits and two walks.

Kansas City Royals vs Chicago White Sox Prediction

The Chicago White Sox are road favorites with a money line set at -150, while the Kansas City Royals sit at +130 with a total of 8.5. These are games that the White Sox need to win as they continue to fade in the American League & Wild Card standings.

Michael Kopech is at least reliable, holding opposition to two runs or less in five of his last seven starts. He should be able to limit the Royals ice cold lineup that has scored three runs or less in seven consecutive games.

Daniel Lynch has also struggled with the Pale Hose lineup as he has surrendered 15 runs in only 19.2 innings against them. Several Chicago sluggers such as Jose Abreu, Andrew Vaughn and Luis Robert have hit well against Lynch.

If the money line is north of -150 I opt for the run line but we’ll roll with a juicy money line here and I’ll include a quick player prop. Jose Abreu is 4 for 10 with a homerun against Daniel Lynch and has cleared 1.5 total bases in 7 of his last 8 games.

The Royals bullpen is horrendous as they rank 26th in ERA and 27th in xFIP since July 1st. We get over 1.5 total Abreu bases for +100 on DK.

Predictions:
Chicago White Sox -160
Jose Abreu Over 1.5 Total Bases +100
