Chicago White Sox vs Kansas City Royals Analysis

The Chicago White Sox host the Kansas City Royals in the first game of a three game set from Guaranteed Rate Field. The Royals continue their road trip after losing three of four games in New York against the Yankees this weekend.

However they did avoid the sweep on what proved to be a game winning three-run blast from Salvador Perez. The White Sox won two of three home games against the Oakland Athletics after winning the rubber game 4-1 yesterday.

These two teams have split eight head-to-head matchups so far this season. The young righty Michael Kopech toes the rubber for Chicago, while Kansas City turns to 27 year-old Brad Keller. First pitch is slated for 8:10 PM EST/5:10 PST.

White Sox Stay In The Hunt

The Chicago White Sox got back over .500 with a 4-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics to improve to 51-50 on the season. Dylan Cease continued to make a case for American League Cy Young by tossing six innings of one run baseball.

He is now 11-4 on the season with a miniscule 2.01 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. Jose Abreu and Eloy Jimenez both had solo blasts to provide the run support. The Pale Hose currently occupy 3rd place in the American League Central, only two games behind the MinnesotaTwins and one game behind the Cleveland Guardians.

They seem to be heating up at the right time as they have won 10 of their last 15 games. The hard throwing righty Michael Kopech takes the mound for Chicago. He is 4-6 on the season with a solid ERA of 3.16 across 88.1 innings. Kopech faced the Royals back in April and held them to two runs in five innings of work.

Perez Provides The Power

The Kansas City Royals were facing a four game sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees at the beginning of the 9th inning on Sunday afternoon. However Salvador Perez had other plans, and hit what proved to a game winning three-run shot off of Yankees elite closer Clay Holmes.

Perez has played three since his return from the IL and hit two homeruns. Zack Greinke did what was needed and held the Yankees to three runs across five innings.

With a 40-62 record, Kansas City is obviously a seller at the deadline and they proved it by shipping All-Star Andrew Benintendi to the very same Yankees they were set to play. The move further weakened an already lackluster lineup that ranks 28th in runs scored on the season.

Brad Keller has been the Royals workhorse so far this season as he leads the team in quality starts, wins and innings pitched. He is 5-11 on the year with a 4.18 ERA across 107.2 innings. Keller has faced the White Sox twice and has allowed only four runs on eleven hits across 14 innings.

Chicago White Sox vs Kansas City Royals Prediction

The Chicago White Sox are home favorites with a -165 money line, while the Kansas City Royals sit at +140 with a total of 8.5. The White Sox are the better team and they are in far better form. The Royals are in a 4-6 freefall since the All-Star break and five of those losses have been by multiple runs.

The Royals have also had tremendous issues on the road with a 18-32 record. Meanwhile the White Sox seem to be getting healthy at the right time as the lineup and bullpen are both coming around.

Despite Sundays eight run outburst, the Royals have struggled to put runs with only seven runs in the prior five games combined. Kopech has plus stuff and he and the dynamic bullpen should keep a lid on the Royals hitters.

This feels like a spot where the White Sox run away with this one. Let’s take advantage of some plus money on the run line.

Prediction: Chicago White Sox -1.5 +120
