Dodgers vs Diamondbacks Prediction and Betting Preview | Tuesday May 20

Tuesday’s Dodgers vs Diamondbacks matchup is a replay of a pitching matchup that occurred less than two weeks ago. Situations like that often benefit the offense, and the GoldSheet team believes that will be the case in this NL West showdown in Los Angeles.

Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona captured Game 1 of this series with a 9-5 win on Monday. The Diamondbacks now hold a 3-2 lead in the season series with the Dodgers and Arizona has pulled within three games of LA in the NL West.
Ryne Nelson will get the start for the Diamondbacks as he transitions from the bullpen to the rotation to replace Eduardo Rodriguez. This will be Nelson’s second start of the season after allowing two runs on three hits with four walks against the Mets on May 5.
Nelson has good numbers against the Dodgers’ current lineup as they are hitting just .194 with a .251 weighted on-base average against him in 74 plate appearances. Freddie Freeman is 2-for-10. Shohei Ohtani is 1-for-8 with three strikeouts.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Yoshinobu Yamamoto still has strong season-long numbers, but the rest of the league may be catching up to him. Arizona tagged him for five runs on six hits in 5.0 innings on May 8, so this will be the Diamondbacks’ second look at him in less than two weeks.
Yamamoto generated an average of 7.6 strikeouts in his first five starts of the season. That number is down to 5.3 strikeouts in his last four starts.
Dodgers vs Diamondbacks Prediction
There are some bullpen concerns on both sides. Even though he only needed to record one out on Monday, Diamondbacks’ closer Shelby Miller has pitched on back-to-back days. Juan Morillo and Ryan Thompson have each pitched two of the last three days. The Dodgers went with a modified bullpen game on Monday, so Jack Dreyer, Landon Knack and Matt Sauer are all presumably unavailable on Tuesday.
The first five games between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks have seen an average of 11.8 runs per game. The Dodgers are hitting .270 this season (No. 1 in MLB) with a 43.6-percent hard-hit rate (No. 6) and a .357 weighted on-base average (No. 2).
The Diamondbacks are No. 3 in weighted on-base average, No. 2 in generating walks and No. 1 in doubles. Both offenses should continue to find success in this matchup.
