Blue Jays vs Phillies Prediction and Betting Preview | Tuesday June 3

Zack Wheeler was originally supposed to take the mound for Tuesday’s Blue Jays vs Phillies contest, but he did not make the trek to Canada and will stay home for the birth of his child. This series, and Tuesday’s game in particular, has a much different outlook with Cristopher Sanchez getting the nod.

Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies are carrying a four-game losing streak to Canada after getting swept at home by Milwaukee over the weekend. Bryce Harper is expected to return to the lineup on Tuesday after missing the last five games with a bruised elbow.
Sanchez has been fantastic for Philadelphia this season, but there is some concern about what is behind him in the bullpen. Since Jose Alvarado was issued his 80-game suspension on May 19, the Phillies’ bullpen has a 4.93 ERA (No. 23 in MLB) with a .296 batting average allowed (No. 27) and a 19.6-percent strikeout rate (No. 24).
Toronto Blue Jays
You likely won’t hear any complaints from the Blue Jays regarding the switch from the righty Wheeler to the lefty Sanchez. Toronto is hitting .266 against lefties this season (No. 4 in MLB) with a .353 on-base percentage (No. 2) and a 119 wRC+ (No. 5).
Blue Jays’ starter Bowden Francis has struggled at times this season, but he’s coming off his best start of the season and manager John Schneider was very encouraged by what he saw from Francis against the Rangers. “That was probably the best start he’s had in a while,” Schneider said. “He’s been working real hard in between with Pete to get the fastball where he wanted to today, and he did. Tonight was really encouraging from Bowden.”

Blue Jays vs Phillies Prediction
We touched on the struggles of the Phillies’ bullpen over the last two weeks without Alvarado. Toronto’s bullpen, on the other hand, has been a revelation this season. The Blue Jays’ bullpen has a 3.47 ERA this year (No. 8 in MLB) with a .208 batting average allowed (No. 2) and a .291 on-base percentage (No. 3). Toronto’s bullpen has posted a 27.6-percent strikeout rate, which is the best mark in the league.
The Blue Jays are 4-1 at home against lefty starting pitchers this season.
