Forte Path to the Kentucky Derby

Forte broke his maiden upon first asking in May at Belmont Park with Irad Ortiz aboard. Ortiz has been aboard for each of this colt’s six races and then only time they didn’t win was in the Sanford (G3) at Saratoga last summer in Forte’s second start and first time in a Graded Stake as well as his first time facing winners. Since that effort these connections have won the Hopeful (G1), the Breeders Futurity (G1), and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) to complete his two-year- old campaign. Todd Pletcher brough Forte back to kickoff his three-year-old campaign in the Fountain of Youth (G2) at Gulfstream in March when he overcame a poor start but took control of the race in the stretch putting lengths on the field. He was truly tested in his final Derby prep at Gulfstream in the Florida Derby last month spotted the field almost six lengths before mounting another big late run and passed Mage to secure his spot as the top point earned on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.
