Jay Norvell bailed on Nevada, going for the money here in a sideways move.  He took many coaches with him, and 11 players. 

Karma hit, and the Rams beat only depleted Nevada and bottom-feeders Hawaii and New Mexico to finish 3-9.  This year, maybe ten or eleven starters will be transfers, and CSU also secured the conference’s best recruiting class.  Alex (or Ken Jennings), I’d like buy me a bowl game appearance for $600 please.

Colorado State Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH

Clay Millen returns as a starter, and his upside is noticeable.  The run game was at 3.2 in a transition season.  The top guy returns, along with a productive transfer from powerhouse North Dakota St.  The offense’s biggest concern is the OL. 

Transfers from no-named schools try to make up for starters lost, but those starters allowed an NCAA-high 59 sacks, which was pathetic.  Watch the run and pass blocking carefully all during the year.  I expect further improvement defensively, with much of their sack personnel returning, along with some higher profile portal transfers. 

Like with the offense, this will be monitored.  The new kicker comes from Utah (6-8).  CSU NEVER scored more than 19 points in any game in 2022.  Red zone efficiency was terrible.  Let’s see what year two brings.

Colorado State 2023 Predictions, Colorado State Schedule:

Along with Utah Tech, non-conference games read WSU, at rebuilding Colorado and at MTSU.  The goal has to be 2-2.  How’s the stat sheet look after these games?  I’ll chart red zone performance, the run game, and pass protection, while looking for variance in any defensive areas.  CSU lost close at home to Utah St last year. 

Which team looks better thus far in 2023?  UNLV has a new staff.  Can the Rams steal a road win here?  Is Air Force focused when they come to Fort Collins?  I’ll pre-check CSU at home, ad SD St on the road.  Games 11-12 are winnable, Nevada and at Hawaii.  CSU hopes they are meaningful.

Colorado State Football Bottom Line: Over/Under Wins

A 2-4 start, but 5-7 or 6-6 at most? 

This is one team that with all the changes, it’s best to write projections in light pencil and react to early on-field performance and my team sheet keys.  Will the run game deliver?  Can the OL be halfway decent?  Am I right about defensive improvement?  Keep an open mind with this team
