Colorado vs Oklahoma State Key Matchups and Handicap
At least the Buffs do not appear to have tuned out Coach Prime. Colorado delivered perhaps its best effort of the last two seasons when it made unbeaten Utah sweat in Boulder last Saturday night.
Still, there is no sugarcoating the situation surrounding Deion Sanders and the program, which has avoided some extra scrutiny along the Front Range only because the Denver Post and other regional outlets have been preoccupied with the Broncos and Bo Nix.
The off-field picture matters here. Sanders is no longer working for Rick George, the athletic director who handed him a costly contract extension that the school is now struggling to pay.
He is an inherited cost for new athletic director Fernando Lovo, who was hired with a mandate to straighten out the department’s finances. That is the source of the growing hot-seat talk around Sanders.
Buffaloes vs Cowboys: Tortoise vs Hare
Colorado’s offense has struggled to find any rhythm. The Isaac Wilson-led attack came close to 400 yards against Utah, but the Buffs still have not reached that mark against an FBS opponent this season.
Brennan Marion’s “Go-Go” offense has mostly run into red lights, and Colorado’s winless streak in Big 12 play now stretches beyond a year.
The Buffs were scoring barely 10 points per game against Power 4 competition before putting up a season-high 24 against Morgan Scalley’s Utah team last week. A trip to Stillwater to face the high-powered Cowboys looks as treacherous as flying into nearby Aspen in bad weather.
Oklahoma State has no such problems moving the ball. The new Eric Morris-led offense is averaging 37.2 points per game. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker, who followed Morris from North Texas, is rising on Mel Kiper Jr.’s NFL draft lists, with more than 6,300 passing yards and 50 touchdown passes across a season and a half with the Mean Green and the Cowboys.
The Cowboys also have a viable ground game led by another North Texas transfer, running back Caleb Hawkins, who is well on his way to a 1,000-yard season. Combined with Mestemaker’s passing, Oklahoma State ranks fifth in the country in total offense at 518 yards per game.
The Oklahoma State defense has been a bit generous, but much of that stems from the brisk pace of its games. Opponents such as Oregon (with a healthy Dante Moore), West Virginia and Houston all bring far more offense than Colorado.
Against a Buffs attack that has struggled to score, the Cowboys’ defense should look much better, and Colorado’s inability to sustain drives should keep the overall scoring below the number.

Colorado vs Oklahoma State ATS and Total Picks
Oklahoma State -13.5 is the spread play. The Cowboys have one of the most productive offenses in the country, with Drew Mestemaker throwing and Caleb Hawkins running, while Colorado has scored barely 10 points per game against Power 4 opponents outside of last week’s game against Utah.
The Buffs gave a strong effort in Boulder, but repeating that on the road against a far more explosive offense is a big ask. All of the tracked money is on the Cowboys, and the line sits a point below its opener.
Under 55.5 is the total pick. Oklahoma State should do most of the scoring, but Colorado’s offense has struggled to contribute much against quality competition.
The Cowboys’ defensive numbers have been inflated by the fast pace of games against high-powered offenses like Oregon, West Virginia and Houston, and Colorado does not belong in that group. The public is entirely on the Over, but if the Buffs cannot sustain drives, this total looks a few points too high.
Colorado vs Oklahoma State Best Bets

Final Score Prediction for Colorado vs Oklahoma State
Drew Mestemaker and Caleb Hawkins power Oklahoma State to an early lead in Stillwater, and the Cowboys’ defense looks much sharper against a Colorado offense that has struggled all season. The Buffs move the ball in spurts, but they cannot keep up, and Oklahoma State cruises to a comfortable home win that stays under the total.
- Final Score Prediction: Oklahoma State 38, Colorado 14
- Spread Pick: Oklahoma State -13.5
- Total Pick: Under 55.5
