DWCS Week 7 Predictions

Damian Piwowarczyk (-130) vs Emilio Quissua (+110) 

Damian has faced some really good competition in KSW and comes into this fight on a three fight winning streak. He can get dragged into wars, but he’s shown the ability to weather big  flurries and come right back with offense of his own.

He can also get takedowns, giving him  plenty of different weapons offensively. The concern is that he’s sometimes too willing to trade and can turn into more of a brawler than a technical striker.

Quissua doesn’t totally impress me.  His striking is low volume, he doesn’t appear to have huge power, his technique isn’t completely buttoned up, and he can be taken down. Damian is the pick. 

Marcos Degli (-395) vs Paris Moran (+310) 

Degli looks UFC-ready. He has great striking, dynamic power, moves extremely well in and out of the pocket, and is defensively sound. He can hurt opponents with both punches and kicks, and  he’s already faced really good competition.

At 26 years old, he’s entering the prime of his career  and looks ready for this opportunity. Moran simply doesn’t appear to have the finishing power to scare him. His last knockout came against an opponent with a 4-9 record, and I don’t see the  strength or power needed to make Degli uncomfortable. Degli is an easy pick. 

Piero Guaylupo (-115) vs Callum Connor (-105) 

Guaylupo throws big punches and has surprisingly good cardio considering how much muscle he carries. He’s durable, doesn’t offer much of a ground game, but does have good takedown  defense. Connor is tall and lanky with good striking, a long reach, and a really nice jab.

The  question is whether he has enough power to hurt Guaylupo. I don’t think he does. Piero is going to work his way inside, and if he gets clean access to Connor’s chin, I think Connor goes out. Connor’s level of competition also isn’t great, and I think he gets overpowered here. Guaylupo is the pick. 

Alvi Dasuyev (-218) vs Jaden Ortega (+180) 

Ortega is a good athlete with plenty of quickness, but he can be too patient and spends too much  time trying to set up the perfect shot. He has good knees and looks dangerous when he finally explodes, but I’m not convinced he’s ready for the type of constant pressure coming his way. 

Dasuyev brings a ton of volume on the feet. He has ground finishes as well, although he isn’t constantly searching for takedowns. He throws really good leg kicks, keeps the striking pressure  coming, and has solid defense. I just don’t see many holes in his game. Dasuyev is the pick.

DWCS Week 7 Main Event: Norbert Novenyi Jr. vs Theo Haig

Novenyi had a good run in Bellator, so he comes into this fight seasoned and experienced. He has good power on the feet and a really strong ground game.

His only loss came against Dalton Rosta, a legitimate fighter, so there’s nothing concerning about the level of competition he’s  faced. Haig has been on Contender Series, where he was knocked out, before bouncing back with  a win in LFA. I don’t think he matches up well here.

His striking looks slow compared to  Novenyi, and his striking defense is a major concern because he simply eats too many punches. Novenyi is the easy pick.
