Jean Silva vs Jose Miguel Delgado: UFC Noche Main Event

UFC Noche Undercard Predictions

Brandon Moreno (+110) vs. Joseph Morales (-130)

I guess this line is telling us that Brandon Moreno is past his prime, because I don’t understand why he’s the underdog here. Joseph Morales is coming off winning The Ultimate Fighter and followed that up by beating a washed-up Matt Schnell, and now he’s favored over Moreno? I don’t see it.

Morales has shown a decent ground game and brings consistent forward pressure, but Moreno is still only 32 years old and has spent years fighting the best of the best.

He still has a long jab, good movement and the ability to clinch and control opponents against the fence. Moreno needs to increase his volume a little bit, but if he does, I think his experience and overall skill set will be too much for Morales. Moreno at +110 is the pick.

Tommy McMillen (-171) vs. Marwan Rahiki (+150)

I wasn’t a Tommy McMillen fan coming off Contender Series, but he has won me over. His activity is insane for all three rounds. He constantly throws strikes and puts opponents under so much pressure that they have a difficult time generating any momentum of their own.

Marwan Rahiki is much more patient. He throws spinning kicks frequently and possesses legitimate one-shot knockout power, which makes him dangerous against someone as aggressive as McMillen.

This should be almost entirely a striking match, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t go the distance. Rahiki can end it with one shot, while McMillen can overwhelm him with volume. McMillen is the lean, but -171 is too steep for me to bet.

Manon Fiorot (-220) vs. Alexa Grasso (+186)

Alexa Grasso is coming off an insane win where she knocked out Maycee Barber with one huge shot, but ultimately, it was one huge shot. Before that, she had lost two decisions against top level opponents, and Manon Fiorot represents another extremely difficult matchup.

Fiorot is long, accurate and extremely difficult to deal with from distance. Grasso is going to have a hard time consistently getting inside without absorbing shots along the way. I think -220 is actually a generous price on Fiorot, and she’s one of my favorite picks on the card.

Waldo Cortes-Acosta (-200) vs. Curtis Blaydes (+174)

Curtis Blaydes is coming off a crazy loss to Hokit where he absorbed a ton of punishment, but he made it to the final bell and dished out plenty of damage himself. Waldo Cortes-Acosta is also coming off a loss where he was extremely low-volume, looked slow and was picked apart from range.

Cortes-Acosta has been very active during his UFC run, and I wonder if all those fights and the accumulated wear and tear are beginning to catch up with him.

Blaydes still has the ability to clinch, wrestle and accumulate control time, which could make these rounds very competitive. At +174, Blaydes is worth a sprinkle. It’s underdog or nothing for me.

David Martinez (-325) vs. Dan Ige (+263)

David Martinez is on a rocket ship up the rankings. He’s lightning-fast on the feet, extremely accurate with his striking and now gets Dan Ige, who has lost four of his last five fights.

Ige isn’t as fast or as powerful as Martinez, and he doesn’t possess the type of dominant ground game that I think could disrupt Martinez’s offense.

This looks like another opportunity for Martinez to showcase his striking and continue moving up the division. Martinez is the easy pick.

Tim Elliott (+174) vs. Edgar Chairez (-200)

Edgar Chairez should be the better fighter in this matchup. He has a significant advantage in the striking, he’ll be taller, and his ground game should at least be good enough to deal with Tim Elliott’s wrestling and takedown attempts.

There is still a path for Elliott. If he gets Chairez down, he may be able to hold him there because Chairez has shown that he can give up extended periods of control time.

The problem is that Elliott is almost 40 years old. He still has some fight left in him, but at this stage, Chairez should simply be a little too much for him.

Ignacio Bahamondes (-500) vs. Muslim Salikhov (+383)

Neither of these guys is particularly trustworthy right now, but at 42 years old and coming off a knockout loss almost a year ago, I have to fade Muslim Salikhov. He probably still has some power, but the speed and cardio simply aren’t what they once were.

Ignacio Bahamondes has lost two straight himself, but his biggest problems have come on the ground, and I don’t expect Salikhov to exploit that weakness. Bahamondes is long and should be able to use his jab and kicks to soften Salikhov up from distance. The speed difference should

become more obvious as the fight progresses. Bahamondes should cruise here.

Yousri Belgaroui (-700) vs. Djorden Santos (+505)

Yousri Belgaroui has completely transformed his fighting style since moving to a new gym, and he looks incredible. He’s tall and long and has finally figured out how to maximize those physical advantages with his jab and kicks from distance.

His last three fights have ended with third-round finishes, showing that he can maintain his cardio, accumulate damage and finish opponents late.

Djorden Santos simply doesn’t appear to have the skill set to keep up. He’ll be shorter, slower and enters this matchup with a 1-2 UFC record. Belgaroui should dominate the striking and eventually get the late KO.

Drakkar Klose (+383) vs. Tommy Gantt (-500)

Drakkar Klose has won five of his last six fights, but I think he’s clearly beginning to slow down. His most recent win came against Edson Barboza near the end of Barboza’s career, and before that, Klose was finished in the first round. The power and volume just aren’t there like they used to be.

Tommy Gantt is a talented wrestler working with Daniel Cormier, which looks like a perfect fit for his skill set. He’s athletic, physical and already 33 years old, so he doesn’t have time for a slow climb through the UFC rankings. I expect him to push the pace immediately, clinch, wrestle and wear Klose down. Gantt is the easy pick.

Rafa Garcia (+149) vs. Rongzhu (-170)

Rafa Garcia looked incredible in his last fight, and it was probably the best performance we’ve seen from him. His striking was crisp, his movement looked excellent, and instead of absorbing a bunch of punishment, he was the one consistently dishing it out.

I like Rongzhu, but he’s already been through 34 professional fights despite being only 26 years old, and that’s a lot of mileage. I expect most of this fight to take place on the feet, but Garcia also has the option to wrestle if he needs it. If Garcia looks anything like he did in his last fight, he can win a clear decision, and I like him at +149.

Jessie Rosas (+105) vs. Sean King (-125)

Jessie Rosas may be the brother of UFC fighter Raul Rosas Jr., but he’s nowhere near the same level. His record has been built against extremely weak, hand-picked competition, and I don’t trust what we’ve seen from him against that level of opposition.

Sean King has shown some good takedowns and a solid ground game, and I think that’s where he can take control of this matchup. Whatever approach Rosas chooses, I expect King to have the better answer. King is the pick at -125.

JJ Aldrich (+219) vs. Regina Tarin (-265)

I love Regina Tarin in this matchup. She’s only 21 years old but already has plenty of experience, and she went three rounds and won against a talented kickboxer in her UFC debut. She’s long, knows how to use her jab and front kicks to maintain distance, and has shown excellent cardio and durability.

JJ Aldrich is coming off a win that I didn’t think she deserved at all. She was extremely low volume, did very little damage, and even the announcers seemed stunned by the decision.

She doesn’t bring much firepower on the feet, and I don’t think she has the physicality to consistently impose a wrestling game on Tarin.

UFC Noche Main Event: Jean Silva (-425) vs Jose Delgado (+325)

Jose Delgado is taking this fight on short notice, and this is an extremely difficult matchup to step into without a full camp. Jean Silva is a dynamic striker with devastating power, while Delgado hasn’t looked particularly dominant against much lower-level competition.

This one is pretty straightforward. Delgado is probably being paid well to take the opportunity on short notice, but Silva is simply too dangerous and too skilled on the feet. Silva is the pick, and I expect him to get the KO.
