NFL Offensive Player of the Year Betting Trends

Recent NFL Offensive Player of the Year trends show how the award has shifted toward running backs and wide receivers.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba won Offensive Player of the Year last season after recording 119 receptions, 10 touchdowns and a league-leading 1,793 receiving yards.

Saquon Barkley won the award in 2024 with a league-leading and franchise-record 2,283 yards from scrimmage, accounting for an NFL-high 34.8% of his team’s output while also scoring 15 touchdowns.

Christian McCaffrey won Offensive Player of the Year in 2023 during his first full season with the San Francisco 49ers. McCaffrey led the league in rushing yards (1,459), yards from scrimmage (2,023) and touchdowns (21) despite sitting out the regular-season finale after the 49ers had clinched home-field advantage.

During the past seven seasons, four wide receivers and three running backs have won the award.

That represents a major change from an earlier period in the award’s history. From 1994 through 2018, only quarterbacks (10) and running backs (18) won NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

2026 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Predictions and Picks

NFL OPOY Best Bet: Jahmyr Gibbs +600

Jahmyr Gibbs +600 at CZR is our best bet to win the 2026 NFL Offensive Player of the Year award.

Gibbs became the highest-paid running back in NFL history after signing a massive three-year, $67.5 million contract extension with the Detroit Lions. In 17 games during the 2025 campaign, Gibbs rushed for 1,223 yards and 13 touchdowns on 243 attempts while adding 616 receiving yards and five more scores on 77 receptions.

The Lions dealt with a plethora of injuries, and Gibbs flew somewhat under the radar as Detroit missed the playoffs with a 9-8 record. However, the three-time Pro Bowler has already accumulated 3,850 rushing yards, 1,449 receiving yards and 49 all-purpose touchdowns.

Gibbs is a dynamic dual-threat running back who could have produced even more impressive numbers if it wasn’t for his timeshare with touchdown vulture David Montgomery. Montgomery has now joined the Houston Texans, and Isiah Pacheco isn’t capable of performing quite at that level, creating an opportunity for Gibbs to become a true “bell cow” back in a potent Detroit offense.

I fully expect the Lions to win the NFC North and be Super Bowl contenders, which should give Gibbs the exposure he needs to compete for his first Offensive Player of the Year award.

The betting price also plays a major role in this selection. Gibbs is available at +600 at CZR, while DK has his odds set at +275.

NFL Offensive Player of the Year Longshot Pick: Omarion Hampton +4000

Omarion Hampton +4000 at CZR is our longshot bet to win the 2026 NFL Offensive Player of the Year award.

Hampton dealt with injuries during his rookie season, including a two-month stint on injured reserve after suffering a fractured left ankle in Week 5, but he enters the 2026 campaign fully healthy.

Hampton is a three-down running back with a strong lower body that gives him the ability to run through contact. His situation could also benefit from a major change to the Los Angeles Chargers offense.

The Chargers have brought in former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel as their new offensive coordinator. His wide-open schemes stretch the field while creating lanes for running backs. De’Von Achane thrived in that system, and while Hampton doesn’t possess the same speed, he should benefit from the additional running room.

The Chargers also dealt with injuries along the offensive line during Hampton’s rookie season. He logged a total of zero carries with both Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater on the field.

The presence of Justin Herbert and receiving weapons such as Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston should also provide Hampton with opportunities to face lighter boxes and find room on the ground.

At +4000 at CZR, Hampton provides a longshot option in the 2026 NFL Offensive Player of the Year futures market.

2026 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Best Bets

Recent history has made running backs and wide receivers the positions to watch when evaluating the 2026 NFL Offensive Player of the Year odds, with four wide receivers and three running backs winning the award over the past seven seasons.

Jahmyr Gibbs enters the season as the +600 favorite at CZR following another productive campaign in Detroit, while Omarion Hampton provides a much larger potential payout at +4000 as he enters his second season with the Los Angeles Chargers.
