Now Cruz gets another look at Colin Rea who he’s gone 2-8 (.250) against with a double and a free pass. Rea has really struggled in 2026 while posting a 4.83 ERA and 1.37 WHIP across 54 IP.

In his last three starts, Rea has allowed 12 earned runs across 15 IP. Current Pirates are batting .321 against Rea with 5 home runs across 89 plate appearances.

Rea has also struggled on the road where he’s posted a 6.75 ERA across 26.2 IP. Now Rea will have to deal with a Pittsburgh lineup that ranks #1 in wRC+ & wOBA, #2 in SLG%, #6 in ISO and #7 in BB% during the month of May.

Speaking of home runs, Rea has allowed multiple long balls in 2 of his last 3 outings and Cruz is overdue for a moon shot with only one home run across his last 63 plate appearances. Cruz has elite bat speed, and he’ll be leading off at home with temps in the 70’s and wind blowing out tonight at PNC Park.

We usually aren’t jumping to back hitting prop overs in games with Paul Skenes on the mound, but Nico Hoerner has seen him well while going 4-12 (.333) against him with a home run and a free pass. Skenes hasn’t been in great form with 9 earned runs allowed on 15 hits across 10 innings of work in his last two outings.

The Pirates ace has already recorded 7 starts against the Cubs and his home/road splits are insane as he hasn’t allowed a single run in three starts at Wrigley Field, but he’s allowed at least 3 earned runs in all four starts at home with most of those being shorter outings.

Current Cub sluggers are batting .253 against Skenes with 4 home runs across a strong sample size of 104 plate appearances. Chicago has a talented lineup, and they just busted a 10-game losing streak with a 10-run effort yesterday so their bats may have finally come around. Hoerner is projected to bat 2nd tonight and he’s coming off a game where he went 2-5 (.400) with an RBI and a run scored.
