After losing three of four games against the Cubs in Chicago, the Pirates will make the short trip to take on the Tigers for the first of three games.

They averaged less than two runs per game in that series and sit bottom three in team batting average this season.

Casey Mize takes the mound for Detroit not allowing a first inning run in nine of 11 starts on the season including his last two.

Pittsburgh sits bottom ten in first inning scoring on the road, failing to do so in 74% of games away from PNC Park.

Mize’s ERA currently sits under 3.00 but at home he sports a 1.54 ERA. The Tigers are coming off losing two of three games to the Reds at home as they’ll get lefty Bailey Falter who hasn’t allowed a first inning run in 10 of 14 starts on the season.

NRFI Best Bet Today #2: St. Louis Cardinals vs Chicago White Sox (-115)

The White Sox attempt to snap a five game losing streak as they host the Cardinals for the first of three games.

Chicago has averaged just two runs per game across their skid with St. Louis sending lefty Matthew Liberatore to the mound.

He struggled in his last start but he has held opponents scoreless in the first inning in ten of 13 starts on the season with the White Sox failing to score in the first in their last six games.

Chicago has the worst overall team batting average in the MLB heading into tonight as they send righty Shane Smith to the mound who has quietly put together a stellar season so far sporting a 2.18 home ERA and held opponents scoreless in the first inning in 11 of 13 starts this season including three straight.

The Cardinals have averaged less than three runs per game in their last five with Smith allowing just one earned run in total in his last 11.1 innings pitched against the Tigers and Astros.
