Chicago White Sox vs Kansas City Royals Analysis

The Kansas City Royals travel to Guaranteed Rate Field to begin a three game series with their division rivals the Chicago White Sox. Both teams had a scheduled day off yesterday after losing their weekend series. The White Sox were swept at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks in dominant fashion.

Meanwhile the Royals lost two home games against the San Diego Padres. Two right-handed starters will be going head-to-head as the 26 year-old Brady Singer toes the rubber for Kansas City, while Chicago counters with the 28 year-old Lucas Giolito. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST/5:10 PST.

White Sox Need To Right Ship

The Chicago White Sox entered the season with the expectation to win the American League Central. They have hovered around .500 all season and currently sit with a losing record at 63-65.

They own a 12-15 August record after being swept at home against a bottom barrel team in the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was an absolute embarrassment as they were outscored 20-7 in the three games after Sundays 3-2 loss.

Elvis Andrus was the only player with multiple hits, going 2 for 4 with a double. They wasted a dynamite outing by Dylan Cease, who only allowed two runs on two hits while striking out eight batters across eight innings of work.

The Pale Hose offensive attack has struggled recently, only scoring 12 runs during their current four game losing streak. Chicago has also under achieved offensively on the season, ranking 21st in runs scored and 17th in OPS.

Lucas Giolito gets the nod for the White Sox on Tuesday evening. He is 10-7 on the season with a bloated 5.14 ERA and 1.50 WHIP.

Giolito has some concerning underlying numbers with an expected slugging percentage of .395, meaning opponents are making plenty of hard contact. He has started twice against the Royals this season and given up four runs on 12 hits across ten innings.

Royal Pains

The Kansas City Royals season has been disappointing as well, but probably closer to the expectations of most as they will miss the post-season for the 7th straight season with a 52-77 record.

They salvaged the final game of their series against the San Diego Padres with a tremendous 15-7 victory. Hunter Dozier went 4 for 4 with a double and three runs scored, while Salvador Perez went 3 for 5 while hitting his 18th long ball of the season.

Johnathan Heasley gave up four runs(three earned) in only five innings, but picked up his 2nd win of the season. The Royals traded away two of their best hitters in Andrew Benintendi and Whit Merrifield at the deadline and they were already one the leagues worst lineups, ranking 24th in runs scored and 25th in OPS.

Kansas City will turn to Brady Singer on Tuesday night. He is 7-4 on the season with a 3.15 ERA and 1.11 WHIP on the season. Singer has done well against Chicago this season, holding them to only five runs across 22.1 innings in three starts and one relief performance.

Chicago White Sox vs Kansas City Royals Prediction

The Chicago White Sox are home favorites with a money line set at -135, while the Kansas City Royals sit at +115 with a total of 8. The Royals have been playing at the White Sox level for the past month and they own the season series 9-7.

The White Sox have been playing horrible baseball recently, losing 9 of their last 11 games. It says a lot that they were swept at home this weekend against the Arizona Diamondbacks of all teams. Giolito has been off and on and there are some key KC hitters that have great numbers against him.

Singer has been lights out for the better part of two months and he has owned this White Sox lineup this season. The Royals bullpen ranks dead last with a 4.83 ERA on the season and have been even worse this month with an August ERA of 5.74.

Let’s keep the bullpen out of it and play the Kansas City Royals first five innings +0.5 runs. I could also see going for the +115 odds on the Royals F5 money line, but I will risk the juice and take the insurance of the half run in case of a tie after five innings.

Prediction: Kansas City Royals F5 +0.5 -125 FD (first five innings)
