MLB | MLB American League Winner | 4:51pm EDT - Oct 20/2023 |
The PLAY: Texas Rangers (+425) to Win American League Pennant
Texas Rangers (+425) to Win American League Pennant —
I know how good the AL East has been this season … BUT with that being said, if I could go back and make ONE bet it would be for the winner of the AL West to win the AL Pennant … and that is why I like the Rangers here.
I like the odds on this bet for a few reasons, but lets breakdown my QUICK prediction of the AL playoffs …
- AL East Winner
- AL West Winner
- AL Central Winner
- WC #1 = AL East
- WC #2 = AL West
- WC #3 = Really could be East or West …
That 3rd WC, whether it be Toronto, Boston, Seattle, LA, Tampa, Baltimore, Houston OR Texas … could ALL beat the 3-seed … which would put the #2 seed (ALW) against the higher-ranked wild card team, potentially playing their AL West rival again. Which is why the division winner (home-field advantage) comes into play…
I don’t always want people to take my opinion and run with it, I ALSO want to teach people to understand the process and the bets. I think the team that has home-field advantage in a playoff series between Houston/Texas takes the entire American League. No reason to bet Texas (-105) to win the AL West when I genuinely believe the winner takes the AL. If you are one of those people that are DEADSET on Houston winning the AL West, then I would suggest betting them to win the American League as a whole! But I will tell you why I think Texas is the team that takes the division …
I went through and did my rankings on the IMMEDIATE impact of the trade deadline, my knowledge doesn’t go deep enough into the MINOR LEAGUE to confidently rank all these trades on a full-impact level, but in terms of the change for THIS postseason … I have Texas #3 on my rankings.
Sure, “all they did was add a few pitchers” … but my two responses:
- But their names are Jordan Montgomery, Max and Aroldis.
- Do they really need anything else?
The fact that you know all 3 players that I am talking about and I only had to use 1 last name says something in itself. They “only” added pitchers, but they got one half of that power duo from the Mets and they added two impressive, experienced LEFT-handed arms, one of which can be added to the starting rotation.
As for the second part of the response, when you think about the leagues most explosive offenses you PROBABLY think about the Braves, among a few others (Texas may be on that list) … but it really isn’t even close, the Rangers have scored 22 MORE RUNS than the Atlanta Braves this season and Atlanta is 2nd on the list in runs scored in the MLB. Texas doesn’t need a lot of help scoring runs, but they do need help preventing them. The Rangers, despite their impressive record, have allowed 464 runs this season (8th in the AL)!
Their ability to put up this kind of record with that kind of pitcher numbers on the year says something. The impact that Scherzer, Montgomery and Chapman are going to have on this team push them ahead of Houston in my opinion in the division. I think they are hungrier, and they have one of the easier remaining schedules in the league.

MLB | (901) San Diego Padres at (902) San Francisco Giants: Blake Snell Strikeouts Thrown | 9:45pm EDT - Sep 25/2023 |
The PLAY: Blake Snell Strikeouts Thrown Over 7.5 (-125)
Blake Snell (SD) Strikeouts Thrown OVER 7.5 (-125) — vs. San Fran —
This one just fell short of my list, but Snell has gone over this number in 6 straight starts, and 8 of the L10! He has averaged over 9 K’s per start in his L7 against the division, and went over in 6 out of 7.
Plus, there is a lot on the line for Snell, more than nearly any player in the NL. Not only is San Diego fighting hard for the playoffs, but Snell is still in contention for the NL Cy Young. He needs a good start for the team, but also for himself personally.
Plus, San Francisco has a K% of 25.6% vs. LHP since the All-Star Break, that is more than 1 out of every 4 batters!
